porting the MAF
Re: porting the MAF
you'll get many don't do it replies. i use the vinci ported MAF ends. no need to buy another MAF sensor itself. just the ends will suffice. here's the dyno from the wife's 99 formula. it's been a year since installed and the auto trans still works fine.

Re: porting the MAF
no i do not. i have 02 readings from that dyno. o2s were in the 990-1002 area. after install of the MAF ends, they went to 890-910.
but, here's one from anther dyno showing a 13:1 a/f ratio with the ends.

Re: porting the MAF
We sell composite ported MAF ends as well. They are 69.99 a set and you can find them on our web site. They seem to work be on cars that are running a little rich as the net effect is to lean out the mixture slightly due to some unmetered air coming in. Combine the ends with a MAF translator for the best tuning and performance.
Re: porting the MAF
Pay attention Calee, he had headers and duals which richened his fuel mixture. The MAF ends leaned it out.
Going by your sig you have no exhaust mods. I could scan in my dyno run with ported MAF ends and show you where they had to shut down at 4800 RPM because the MAF ends caused a lean condition and thus detonation. That was with a lid and catback.
I've heard people that tune LS1's tell guys on several occasions to put their stocker back on. When they did they made more power.
There are far more people who have had bad experiences with MAF ends then those that have gained.
Don't go for cheap fixes; put your $ where it'll definately do something.

Re: porting the MAF
didn't have duals when i dyno'ed the MAF ends. had borla. but, yes i agree, if you can dyno or look at o2s to see how rich/lean it runs, then you can determine if one will benefit you. i did, however, still tune with the MAF ends on her car.
Re: porting the MAF
You definitely want to keep close tabs on the air/fuel ratio anytime you change the car in particular the MAF. Most tuners tell you they want the stock MAF because they do not want to spend the time it requires to change the MAF tables for a modified or aftermarket MAF. If you take the time to do it right, a ported MAF can benefit your vehicle and in cases where you are running a little rich, they can definitely lean things out and gain you some power. It's not the best way to tune but it's cheap and often works. Make sure you scan your vehicle after to make sure you didn't go too lean. Too lean and you may pick up some engine knock costing you some power.
