Red face Ported MAF ends...BAD?

Hey, I just installed some MBA ported MAF ends. I installed them and didn't have time to drive it and haven't since.

Now I am reading that this mod may not be a good idea due to making the car run lean.

What can anyone tell me about this? Any other problems in doing this mod?

I tried MAF ends, and all the AM MAFs ... some of the AM MAFs and MAF ends put me lean, added KR, cost me rwhp and ET ... the other AM MAFs sent me rich, cost me rwhp and ET.

Bottom line, for the '01s and '02s MAFs are a real crap shoot, more often bad than good.

Good Luck

Yes, ported ends could lean the car out. People are seeing gains because the ends are leaning out the A/F ratio and adding timing, so the gains are really from tuning changes and not airflow.

Use em, the computer will register the changes and you'll be fine, just make sure you use 94 octane fuel...so you don't get knock...come to think of it, reset your computer.....another issue that comes up is A4's.....ported MAF's will decrease the line pressure making slow shifts...but I think you have an M6....you have no problems

Good luck

Unless you put it on a dyno and/or ATAP to know for sure what's happening, you're probably better off leaving your MAF alone ...

I would not use them.
When we tried a set on Trevor's car(02SS) he picked up 2* of timing at WOT, but gained no power because of the added KR.

I would try them since 01-02's runs very rich from the factory and maybe you'll get lucky. My SLP helped a lot as far as sotp feel and my dyno numbers are good. I'm running very rich with them not lean. If you install them it will take at least 100 miles before the pcm fully relearns the new A/f with them. Then the car will either run better or worse. If you get no pinging then you might be alright.

The 85mm MAF is calibrated, so it's alright to use. The computer can adjust for the changes. When you add a set of ported ends, the MAF is not calibrated for the changes and that's when you run into problems.

sleeperZragtop- Nice!!
