police packaged LS1

does any own one, or know anyone that owns one... i'm seriously looking into purchasing one and would like some info on them. i know, they are basically stock ls1 except for some upgraded components, however, my question is more oriented towards after police use, how well do they hold up. as some of the deals i've found through local auctions, 2000 ls1's with around 100,xxx miles run for around 5-6 grand, which to me seems like the great buy as a project/second weekend car. i dont have much money to invest into a ls1 from a dealership, so this seems like the best choice for me.

so my question to any that knows, except for some cosmetic replacements (mirrors have light cut outs, interior is warn, and no back seats) are they in good condition, or are they heavely abused and i should look else where? any help wuld be greatly appreciated.

Its the B4C package IIRC.

Wear and tear would depend on the department that owned it, and the officer that drove it.

Beale AFB has them. I was the fleet guy there (Active Duty USAF) and the only difference was the bigger Alternator. We had to have them to help land the U2 Spyplane

Its very hard to tell, NOBODY has the answers. Not even Settlemeyer. I have a Silver 98 B4C. I am currently at 165,000 miles and still running strong.

Un-Officially, I don't think that GM did anything special. No badging, no auto headlights, the alternator is not rated higher (all 98's had a 105 amp). If they did anything special to them, they are not telling...

Just check them out very well. All of the B4C's that were in service around here that have gone up for auction have either baja'd or crashed more then once.

Re: police packaged LS1

The suspension is exactly the same. Only the 3rd gens got the 1LE suspension package. There is not a thing special about my B4C. The engine oil cooler and 140 amp alt std (vs 120)...however, most Z28's my year had that anyways. Yeah they might be somewhat collectible I guess, but there really is nothing special about 4th gen B4C's. There are even B4C's with leather and power seats out there.
