Question Please Help...Ls1 vs Lt1

Hi I am new to the sight and have done my research about the Ls1 and Lt1. the reviews and comments about them are split. Some say one faster some more reliable. What i am trying to find out which one is trully better. I am looking at 4th and 5th Gen. Trans am and 4th gen. camros 1997 plus. I want all the facts and opinions. What i am thinking is... I have 10 grand, I can get a ls1 for 10k with 75000 miles. I can get an Lt2 with 75000 miles for about 7k. Now in your opinion what is the better buy. If i get Lt1 i have 3k for engine mods and costomization, if I get Ls1 I have no mod money. P.S. it will be manual but that doesn`t really matter. Please help me out with this decision, give all the facts and opinions you can. Thank You

I suggest lots more reading. The LT1 vs LS1 topic has been beaten to death on nearly every internet automotive forum. There are NUMEROUS threads on this site alone.

And you seem confused on the generations. 4th gens are 1993-2002, and 5th gens are 2010+

Dude just scroll down this page some and you'll see a ls1 vs lt1 thread. That should give you an idea of how many times this topic has been beat to the ground.

You can get a 75k mile LS1 for in the 7000s if you want a Z28. No problem.

I've had both motors and I can honestly say without any regret or doubt that the LS1 motor is better and more powerful mod for mod in every single fashion.

I was waiting for Kreast the LS1 lover to respond LOL.

To the questions I will make it simple. If you want the best track numbers the LS1 is the best for the wallet. I'm a LT1 owner. I didn't buy a camaro to run 7's I bought it because of looks, sound, and its history. LT1's are bad as* and I only lost two races of 30.

People on Camaroz28.com don't believe me when I say I beat a 2000 Camaro Ls1 which my friend finally admits and never talked smack about them ever since. It was a fair race with both of us with intake and exhaust and an A4. I love the sound of the LT1 and I like being the underdog. I get so many compliments on my 1997 camaro its not any funny.

1996-1997 were the better years for the LT1 and had more power. I have 160,000+ on my engine with the original opti spark and water pump. It doesn't burn oil and eats evo's and G35's all day.

If your buying a LS1 buy the 2001- 2002 which had more power. The LT1 will always be a bit behind from the LS1 but for a motor that was invented in the late 1980's and pushed 300HP at the crank that to me is amazing and was a modern motor for its time. Ever Since the LT1 showed its face on the road the Mustang was a joke.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that you haven't done enough research.

You can get an LS1 car for six grand if you look hard enough. You can get an LT1 car for four grand. Both are fast and respond well to modifications. In completely stock form, the LS1 car is faster and gets better gas mileage.

For the $2000-3000 difference in price, you could make several modifications to the LT1, and if you choose wisely, they could easily make it faster than the LS1. If going fast is your only priority, I guess that would be the end of the discussion.

If you're buying a manual transmission car, I suggest you look high and low for a 2001-2002 car. These came with an improved clutch (borrowed from the Corvette Z06 which came out in 2001), as well as a couple of other important changes (intake manifold and cam) that together make it both more powerful and better behaved at low RPM.

There is simply no way that the above is the whole truth, nothing went wrong on his end, and you still won. Did you have better tires than he did? Did your "exhaust" include longtube headers and true duals, and his just a Flowmaster muffler? Do you have 3.23s and he has 2.73s? Is his car a convertible and yours a hardtop? Did your friend have three large passengers in the car? I'm just throwing out guesses here, but if you really did win a fair race against an LS1, then there must be something you're not telling us.

he had a t-top. I had a hard top. Both auto, i had 142,000 at the time he had 83,000 both camaro's both had slp loudmouth, he had the slp intake lid, i had the k&n cold air fpik, he was alone i was alone. He weighs 200-220 i weigh 180, i had my spare tire and jack out with a quarter tank of gas, we went twice at 55mph to 140 inching past him and his front bumper was next to my rear bumper and the gas tank lid. His name is ron and he owns the silver ls1 camaro from shelton so please chime in. I guess my camaro was one of the good ones because people don't believe me but i seem to get people that change there mines and say the car is viscous or say don't under estimate the lt1.

If we had more room on the high way he would of barely beat me after 140 - 155mph
bec even I know and admit that the ls1 will always be barely ahead only after 140mph or 150 mph which to me is stupid to race after 100 mph but I had to shut up the LT1 haters, sorry.

Some people really hate and knock on the LT1, I wonder why these LS1 owners do instead of the imports LOL oooooo I smell fear from the LS1 owners.

That was a mistake.

And for the record, an LT1 beating an LS1 in the scenario you posted above would be like a 305TPI 3rd gen running down a LT1 car. Would you admit that's possible? Probably not...

Help me i'm drowning in bull****.

When my Z was stock (A4, 2:73) i would literally slow down and wait for LT1's to catch up and once they did i would floor it again and leave them well behind. We did this every weekend at our F-body car shows in VA. Stock vs stock the LS1 will always come on top, you can cry all you want about it but that's just the way it is. Why would GM upgrade a platform to make it perform the same as the previous one? Get over yourself and your imaginary super factory LT1.

Just for the record, acting like this will not be tolerated in this forum, on this site, or especially in any forum that I moderate.

There's no reason to act like this on this site. Calling people out and talking trash is one thing, but deliberately blowing things out of control or trying to start a flamewar is crossing the line.
