Paint Job.

Ok, so there's a 99 Silver TA/WS6 and a 98 Black ta/ws6, both of which im considering buying. The black has a few more defects, smoker owner, 12k less miles (at 33k miles) and a loudmouth already on it: the guy is asking 16500. The 99 Silver is in pristine condition, however, 12k more miles than the black, and it is silver (I really want a black one). The fellow is asking 14500 for it. How much would a good quality paint job run me to change the silver one to black, and would I come out ahead in terms of $$?
Thanks.

It wouldn't be worth it to convert the silver one to black.

However, as much as I like black, if I were in your situation, I'd be all over the silver one. It's newer, you admitted it was taken care of a lot better, and it's much more reasonably priced.

Silver has a lot of advantages over black, too. Hard or impossible to see scratches, dents don't show as bad, much easier to maintain and keep clean...I like my black car, but in your case, you should consider the silver one, if not, then keep looking. The black one just seems overpriced, and I wouldn't want a smoker's car.

A good quality paint job should cost bewtween 3000-4000 dollars. And that means, stripping the old painyt off and putting the new paint on. I have a buddy who does auto painting, and he says that black is the ablsolute hardest color to do. It just takes a lot more work for black to look good.

I have had a silver Z28 and I now have a black SS. Although black looks great when its clean, it takes a lot of work to keep it that way. I was partial to the silver, but then again, I wasn't REALLY wanting black like you are. Do whatever YOU want. It's your car and it needs to be exactly what you want or you will regret it. I've got everything on this SS that I wanted and I couldn't be more pleased. And the black does look good (besides the swirl marks ).

I set out wanting a black or dark blue car, but I got a red 00 SS for under $17k with 28k miles so I jumped on it. The color is growing on me.

Silver is a cool color. You could always put black stripes on it or something. Or as others mentioned, just wait a bit. Something else will pop up.

If you shop around I bet you can get a paint job for $1.500 to $2,000. However that's using the least expensive paint they offer.

Personally I would get the silver one because I like the color better then black (and easier to keep clean). But since you are set on Black then just get it.

So the person smoked in the car. Use air freshners. It has 12k less miles and a loudmouth so you don't need a catback (unless you think it's too loud).

Unless there are rips in the seat or something I would get the black one but talk him down some. He is asking too much money and he can't use LM as a bargaining tool. It only costs $300 new and mods do not increase resale value.

You can probably get him down to 15k or find one for that somewhere else.

Good Luck

BTW if you see a white one you can do this to it for $200.00. I get compliments all the time and turn heads whereever I drive it to. Plus it was made for the WS6 hood even though I don't have one yet.

any painter will tell you changing colors on a car is expensive if you want it done right...think about it the cars are painted before they recieve anything...engine tranny rear...anything...thats why the engine bay is painted the same color as the exterior...keep looking for a black one that your happy with thats the bottom line.
