Pacesetter
Pacesetter
There are many choices for pacesetter headers...
What is the differance between smog and non-smog? Does it affect horsepower?
Why would I want to get coated headers? Is it worth the extra 100 bucks?

smog would havehookups for EGR & AIR,
Non-smog would not have provisions for Emissions controls.
yes, get coated headers. it looks ignorant to not have coated headers now days.
spend the extra money, and the headers will add to the value of your car (maybe)
uncoated headers will detract from the value of your car as they rust. the paint crap burns off headers in ~15 minutes.

the smog headers are a direct bolt up to the engine, and you will not have to do any custom tuning.
non-smog you will have to remove the EGR and AIR systems from the car and use block off plates (www.paceparts.com). you will also need to have the computer tuned to eliminate the EGR and AIR, otherwise it will trip the sensor and give you the "service engine soon" light.
the jury is still out on whether those codes will cause the engine to run any different. i've had seveeral people say they ran without the tune for months with no problems (other than the light on) and others say that the car slowly got worse as the computer tryied to compensate

for inspection...depends on how strict they are.
you probably won't pass emmisions with the no-smog equipped headers, even if you put highflow cats on. although you MAY be able to slip by...tough to say.
no-smog is "technically" illegal to run on the street...just like it's technically illegal to do 56 in a 55 mph speed zone

coated headers are great if you have the extra 100. i didn't get coated and wish i had of, they are starting to get a tad bit of surface rust after 5 months of having em
if you don't have emissions..... don't get cat's...... they restrict power!

Ok im confused...
No smog is better for emissions than smog...right?
If I got NO smog and high flow cats could I pass emissions...
I guess what I'm trying to ask is if there is any way for mr to pass emissions with LT headers

As far as passing emmission tests, or at least the sniffer only, I believe you CAN pass if you get the EGR hookups, and still have cats.
