Is this overheating normal?

Hey folks,

Is this common or normal? If no, what can cause this?

The dash comes up saying temp nearly 200 degrees (Fahrenheit). But the water level is good. No leaks. Anyone had this happen?

Re: Is this overheating normal?

The engine is designed to operate at 210°F. The fans don't come on until 226°.

What year is the car? Stock or modified engine?

Re: Is this overheating normal?

Hello Fred,

Thank you for the reply. I didn't know that about fans coming until 226 degress. The car about which I was asking is a 2009 stock Camaro.

I realized that I didn't receive notifications because I had not subscribed to this thread. Doing it now.

Thank you and have a great day.

Re: Is this overheating normal?

You're in the 4th Gen section of the site. Tech questions regarding the 5th Gen should be posted in the 5th Gen area. It is also appropriate to include basic info about the vehicle in question - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. My response was specific to the 4th Gen cars, and may or may not be correct for a 5th Gen with an unknown engine.

There's no such thing as a 2009 Camaro.

They started production of the 2010 Camaro in 2009 but no 09 year model according to wiki.. lol who knows tho. I bet it was a typo and suppose to be 2000. Haha

94 Z28 A4 known mods... reworked ported heads/intake. Cam, 3" cat back flowmaster. unknown PCM tune. still researching car. ...

1990 RS HO 305, TH350(shift kit). 4 barrel carb, Cam, Long tube headers.
