Off road y-pipe. It replaces the factory catted y-pipe with one that is usually 2.5-3 in pipe w/mandrel bends and no cats.

thanks. one other stupid question. If i dont want to bend the pipes to the side or dump before axle or go over/under axle i need to use y pipe?

If i use an h or x pipe they end in two pipes which id have to take to the passenger side if i didnt want to dump or go true dual over/under axle? Is this correct.

I guess I'm not understanding what you're asking. It sounds like you're saying you don't want it dumped before the axle or run out the side, not over the axle or under the axle. Those are the only options you have unless you run zoomies through the hood. Please clarify and maybe I can help.

Im just trying to understand the uses of the y,h,x,i pipe etc.

Like if i run LT to a x pipe and then to gmmg, the x pipe would need to go past the back axle in a different place than the stock y cause its shaped different?

If you run long tubes to an x-pipe, the x-pipe replaces your y-pipe and you have an additional pipe running to the back .. (ypipe = 2 pipes to 1 to the back, x-pipe = 2 pipes into the x, two out to the back) .. the 'x' .. where the two pipes cross should be before the axle, in the same location as your y-pipe ..

An h-pipe and an x-pipe are only used with dual exhaust to equalize exhaust pressure between cylinder banks. The y-pipe joins the 2 banks into 1 pipe and is carried back to the muffler by the i(intermediate)-pipe. If you want to run lt's with a gmmg catback you will have to go with a high performance y-pipe to hook it up. If you want lt's with an x-pipe you will have to run true duals and either dump before the axle, run it out the side or go over or under the axle.

some first hand info for you:

i had a bassani orp installed on my 99z w/ stock manifolds. the sound level was raised SIGNIFICANTLY. i can't really say the power gains, since i put a magnaflow catback on at the same time.

a problem i ran into is that the pipe ran 1/2" from part of the frame under the driver seat. any time the engine torqued up, on a launch or just hard 1st/2nd gear acceleration the pipe would hit the frame and make ungodly noise.

to cure this i installed a set of prothane poly motor mounts and it virtually eliminated any engine twist, and also the ypipe hitting the frame. the mounts cost about $50 and took me close to 10 hours to install. it's not easy.

just a word of warning.

and realize you also need a pair of $90 o2 sensor simulators for the rear o2's or else you'll get an SES light. either that or have them programed out.
