Ok, is it the battery? Or the alternator?
I need some help guys. My best friend just drove my car out to me in Arizona and it's obviously hot out here (if that makes a difference).
Well the car's been sitting for about a week and it started up today just fine. But the battery gauge is about 2 mm from the yellow all the time. A/C on, A/C off, doesn't matter. The battery is the one from the factory and the car has close to 50,000 miles on it. Prior to my friend driving it out, it's been in my mom's garage for about the last 4 or 5 months, but she has been starting it up once a week. The green light still glows on the battery. Later on today, I'm taking it to Auto Zone to get both checked. Does anybody have any ideas??
Thanks for all replies!

If you start the car, and disconnect the positive cable while the car is running if the alternator is good, the car will continue to run. A bad alternator will cause it to die.
Now, w/ modern electronics and computer controlled vehicles it is possible that either that rule no longer applies, or worse yet, some sort of damage could be done to the electronics!
I dunno if it would or not - maybe someone else will chime in.
In the short run, your Auto Zone idea is good.
I will also point out that the factory batteries are JUNK !
and if I were to bet I would place my money on the battery as your culprit.
Extreme heat or extreme cold tends to K.O. batteries - sounds like your situation !!
Fortunately for us, the batteries are easy to get to, and Wal Mart has some for like $29.00 !!
Good Luck !

Britt,
First off, good lookin' out bro! I totally agree with the statement about factory batteries, and am actually surprised it lasted this long. I'm going to get them both checked right now and am praying for the battery to be the culprit. Auto Zone batteries are usually around $65 but $29???
Awesome news. Ok, I'm off to it. I'll let ya know what happens.
