Oil change light flashes???

Ok so I changed the oil about 3300 miles ago when I bought this car, I reset the Oil change light then... Now the consesus here is that the light shouldnt come on until about 6k miles...

However my problem I think is different, It comes on when I start up the car, stays on for a minute, then goes away. I know its supposed to stay on so I think its another sort of problem. Also weird a few weeks ago the security light came on while driving, then shut off. IMO its problem maybe with my panel wiring or something... any ideas???

My oil change light does not stay on when it's time for an oil change, mine comes on at start-up and then stays on for only a few minutes before it goes back out, that's at each start-up until I change the oil & reset the light.Hope this helps.Oh,also how soon the change oil light comes on depends on the how you drive & the type of driving you do,mine usually comes on at around 3000 mi also

yup, when the computer thinks it's time for an oil change, the light will come on for a minute or two after startup, then go out.

i've had my light come on anywhere from 2,500 miles and 6,000 miles. it depends on your driving habits during that particular period. it depends on rpm's, temp, and some other stuff.

you got your light to come on after 3300 miles...wow. I think I drive aggressively and mine comes on like clockwork every 4500-4800 miles

You might want to switch to Amsoil or M-1 and just change it every 5-10K miles. Take a look at this link.......read it fully. It could save lots of dough in the long term! Looks like Mibil 1 can essily last 10K and this is based on sound scientific lab analysis, not just opinion. As a matter of fact this oil was still going at 18,000 miles when they ended the M-1 portion of the test. This, of course was with the make up, oil added in. It is interesting to note that the oil actually seems to protect BETTER after 3000 miles than before, so it may even BENEFICIAL to do a longer interval! Oh, and this test is a direct comparison, since the test car is a 2002 LS1 Z28. Interesting stuff. I'm sticking to change intervals of 7500-10000 miles with a 5:1 M-1 10W30 to 15W50. This mix actually quieted my valvetrain a bit when cold.

Here is the Mobil 1 data they are currently comoparing it to Amsoil in a 2002 Z28

Oh I have Mobil 1 in the car right now. I only use Mobil 1 Synthetic in my High Performance vehicles that Ive owned.

The consesus here has been to change at 3k anyway, but honestly Im not looking to change i immediately because I know its Mobil 1 and it will last a lot longer... Besides the fact its too damn cold and Im busy.

I do find i curious that i drive hard enough to trigger the Oil Change light at 3300 miles LOL...
