Oil Change Light

My Oil Change Light has been on for the past couple of weeks. For like 1 minute after I start my car up. Is it suppose to go off after a minute or stay on when you really need an oil change? I added two 1 litre bottles of oil to the engine so im not sure if I should reset my light. Or when I should change it next? BTW this is a 99 LS1.

Why did you add oil? Did you check to see if you needed it?
You should immediatly take your car to a mechanic and have the oil & filter changed and the light reset. Then go buy a book on basic auto maintainence and read it cover to cover.

Re: Oil Change Light

Yah it was really low on oil. So 2 bottles filled it up perfectly. Then the oil change light came on like 2 days after I topped it off.... so grrrr. Should I play it safe and just buy all new oil and change it along with the filter?

Take a look at this thread: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ange+oil+light

If you need an oil and filter change don't neglect that but to reset the oil change light follow the instructions above. It would be a good thing to get an owner's manual if you don't have one. A used one can be quite reasonably priced on ebaymotors.

Re: Oil Change Light

YOU need to keep track of your milage and change oil accordingly. There is no dirty oil sensor, its using math to decide when your oil is dirty and environment is not a factor in that equation.

Re: Oil Change Light

no, to reset the oil change light, turn the key on, but don't start the car. then hold the trip odometer reset button in until the oil light flashes and goes out. the light is set to come on every 3,000 miles once it is set, but as said earlier tis best to keep up with your maintenance with your eyes on the dipstick.

Re: Oil Change Light

At about 2 quarts low you should also throw the low oil level light.
