Oil Change
Oil Change
I have a problem, the oil change light keeps on going on. Its not constant though, most of the time its on, other times it is not. Is this a common occurence? Is this something that happens often which means something else, or do I just need to change it haha? Another thing is do you guys use synthetic oils or will castrol or mobil one due fine?
P.S Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help!!!!

It's telling you to change the oil.
After you do the change, you have to reset the oil light by turning the key to "ON" (without starting) and then holding the trip reset for about 10 seconds.

That light is just reminding you it's getting close to time to change your oil. When it stays on 24/7 an oil change is past due. I always have to check the owners manual on how to reset the darn thing. I've owned 5 new GMs since '97 and each one has a unique way to reset the light. I can't even start to explain how to reset the light in the wife's '02 Intigue.
As for oil type, I'm old school and I use mineral based. I like Castrol 10w30 in winter and 10w40 in summer. A lot of guys will say use synth, and I'm sure there is nothing wrong with it (Camaro SS comes from factory with Mobile 1). But over the past 20+ years I've put hundreds of thousands of hard miles on many different motors (from 4-bangers to V8s) and NEVER had an engine problem (knock on wood), no smoke, no abnormal oil useage, etc.

Well, if you're past 3,000 miles, then change your damn oil lol. To reset it, turn the key into the the point where if you turn it any further your car will start, then hold the trip button for 12 seconds and it should flash, resetting it. If you just forgot to reset it last oil change, then just reset it.. if u didn't, or if you just bought the car used and don't know, be safe and change the oil.
Whoa crazy, I thought the whole Oil/Trip Reset was a farce.. 3 weeks ago, my change oil light came on and I did not know how to turn it off.. Well what I kept doing was when the engine was running Hold the Trip Reset and it still came back on... So I went to local dealer and they used the same trick to reset Silverado's.. So next time my Change Oil light comes on, I will try this method before I use the Silverado's method.. Just turn the key to on and press the gas pedal 3x and on the 4th hold for 12 seconds and release gas pedal.. Start it up and it should not come back on for a while..
