Re: oil catch cans
Better yet make your own for 25 bucks. Go to home depot and buy a water seperator, tubbing and nipple attachments. I have had mine on for a while now with no problems.
You will get some people who say you get what you pay for, etc, etc, etc. Ignore them. The catch cans are all the same.
If you wants pics/examples let me know.

Those $20 ebay cans DO NOT WORK. There is no filter element to catch the vapors in them...it is simply a can with a input hose going in and a output hose coming out.
I had a AMW can on my truck, it would fill up after about 1k miles. I took it off and put it on my TA, and bought the ebay can to put on the truck since it was a bigger can...after 3k miles, it has only a few drops in it.
I bought my AMW can several years ago at about $80-90....now they are $160 which is rediculous for what it is...it is a very nice piece, but not $160 nice.
If you don't want to spend that kind of money, get the air compressor filtering device mentioned above as it works and is designed to do exactly watch a catch can is supposed to do. The ebay one is just like a fat spot in the vacumm line and does nothing unless the liquid is not vaporized..and if you have that much liquid coming thru the vac line something else is majorly wrong.

The AMW can works with just a brillo like steel filter in the top much like that one, not sure how that captures the vapors, but it works.
I just bought an air compressor vapor filter at Home Depot to use to replace the ebay one, it may prove to be too small as it can only hold about 3-4 oz, so I may end up buying the one you posted.
Mook, do a search on Google for "oil catch can", and you will get a ton of different catch cans for about $90, Perrin and Greddy are a couple, but I do not know if those have a filter in them either...I'm going to guess that they do not just by looking at their construction as it appears that they do not disassemble like the one above and the AMW one does.
So you see, it doesn't caputre the vapors at all, it just condenses the oil out of the air stream.
It works because when the vapors are coming thru the can they touch the brillo material (which is colder than the temp at which oil vaporizes) and condenses into oil droplets then fall into the bottom of the can.

I've learned something for the day...I can go home now
What AL said is correct , the " brillo " is just the media for the can . We used the metal shavings from the machine shop at the nuclear power plant where I used to work at as the media for the oil catch cans on all the large pumps throughout the plant and it worked excellent. On those ebay cans ,all you have to do to make them work like they should is to stuff them with coarse steel wool which you can buy at any hardware store. It is a little time consuming , but it is cheap and it works.
The Home Depot Air compressor separator/filter is a much easier route and a hose can can connected to the bottom of it so it can be drained very easy without removal.
