Talking OHHH Kraest

Well an update: I got KOOKS 1 7/8" headers along with TSP 3" true duals. I will soon have $2000-$2300 to spend on heads. I was thinking Advanced Induction LS6 full heads. I wanted your advice on what to do for heads for my 346. You pretty much are in control of this build and want your advice. Full UMI race suspension has already been ordered. Let me know what you think for heads. The FM cam and other parts come later down the line unless you have better options. Thanks man!

Those Ai heads are exactly what I would use (or Larry Meaux-ported LS6 heads if you want to wait 6+ months) if I was using non-aftermarket LS heads.

I'd do the cam before the heads if you aren't doing them at the same time -- much more power increase than just heads first.

I'd also look into getting a FAST intake/TB setup.

Yea I'm going with a FAST 92/92 combo with a Nick Williams for the TB. I'm going to put the H/C/I all on at the same time. I'm also doing an electric water pump and pulley at this time. I'm going to need pushrods also (don't know what to use). I tell you what, I'm hearing really good things about the TFS 215's. What do you think ? This is what I found and this is a quote from Tech..

The TFS 215's Flow Better than the LS6 Stage 2.5

Flow Data

TFS 215cc LS-1
Lift Intake Exhaust
0.1 66 54
0.2 138 118
0.3 218 187
0.4 272 231
0.5 308 252
0.55 318 258
0.6 324 262

Something else to look at:

And just something to think about, TSP Stage 2.5 5.3L heads would make very similar power - and in fact have done right around 450-460 with an MS3 (just about the same size as a VRX5) and stock FAST. Mill those heads, port the FAST, and run the thinner gasket and you'd see 480 out of those combos too.

It all depends on what you want to do. The TFS heads are nice, but you have to run aftermarket rockers and stuff with them -- honestly for the money, you can't go wrong with Ai's stuff.

I wouldn't waste my money on an electric waterpump and UD pulley --- I didn't use an electric waterpump on anything but my 408 and the UD pulley is only good for around 5rwhp or so --- not worth the $200+labor.

I looked at AI a little more in detail and it looks like they do mostly LT! stuff ? I was thinking about http://www.totalengineairflow.com/ LS6 stage 2 or better. These can be had for around $1800 and have similar flow #'s to the trickflows from what I can tell. This with a FM F14 Highlift or MS4 and the ported FAST 92/92. I'll leave the water pump and pulley alone also (thanks Kraest). Also Kraest what do you think about a better oil pump for my 2000 and what about rod bolts for safer high RPM pulls and Cleivit rings and bearings and an LS2 timing chain ? I just want to do this once and do it right.

Rings and bearings? If you're going to disassemble the bottom end, you might as well build one. I wouldn't worry about the rod bolts on a 2000 car -- you're just getting into more money for parts and more labor money.

Flow numbers usually don't paint the whole picture -- it's more about port velocity on a naturally aspirated car -- Ai and Larry Meaux (through Futral) are the best in the business IMO for the late model LT/LS stock castings.

You absolutely need to use an LS6 or ported oil pump and LS2 timing set (or aftermarket) for a cam swap.

I'd under no circumstances use any Magic Stick stuff on a stock cube motor -- absolutely too much cam with too much midrange and low-end loss -- big cams just aren't fun with full weight street cars. If you were using a Texas-Speed cam, I'd use the Torquer series....

...However, I still recommend the Futral F-14HL for your build -- insanely driveable (232/234 duration @ .050") and makes a TON of power all throughout the RPM range.

Here's a few F14HL vids of my old Cam-Only car that put down 415/395 SAE on Futral's Dynojet 248 with a stock waterpump and stock crank pulley.

Idle:

So tame my wife can drive it:

Where's the car?

Hold on to your draws:

May have found something a lot better:

TFS heads are pricey as *****.

Honestly, you're better off with Ai's stuff and a Futral Cam setup.

I wouldn't fool with Vengeance. PM me for details.

Comparing the 2 the Vengenance deal is $400 cheaper for as cast 220cc heads package and you get to pick the cam.

The summit package has fully ported 215cc heads.

I'm not a Futral nut hugger like Kraest, running a G5x2 and moving to a RapTR (Thunder Racing) when I get a set of heads...

But AI 243s are putting up some AMAZING numbers. I'm very impressed and plan on picking a set of these milled to 59cc hopefully this year...

I have to get some wheels/tires dunno if the girlfriend will be too happy if I want to drop another 1,500 on heads after spending 2k on wheels...

I just got a 2005 Corvette in on our lot and I just don't have the keys yet. I was wondering would the 05 Vette have the LS6 intake on it or is it something else I can't use ? If it does have the LS6 and I wanted to swap it out with my LS1 intake would it go on the Vette with no problems like a SES light or anything like that ? All the EGR stuff is off my 2000 so the port on my intake is filled and everything so shouldn't it just go right on the Vette ?

BTW, not trying to ruin the Vette or anything. It's wrecked and has an insurance claim on it so it might be totaled. I could swap intakes before insurance gets a hold of it IF it's an LS6.
