OBD2 Scanner for $189. Worth it?
OBD2 Scanner for $153. Worth it?
Hi gang,
I'm going to post this in LT1 and LS1 Tech since it applies to both.
I was thinking about getting a code reader, because sometimes my cut-out throws a P0400 EGR (low backpressure) code.
I found one online here, there are also others listed:
http://tools.batauto.com/index.php?c...on=show_detail
It seems like it would be a good thing to have, that way I wouldn't have to keep resetting the computer (and thereby causing it to re-learn everything) to clear the code.
I know about Autotap, but I don't have a laptop and it doesn't make sense to go out and spend $600 on a laptop and then another $250 on top for Autotap.
What do you guys think? Have you seen similiar products cheaper?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

If it's just a straight code reader, I'd pass on it.
If you want something you can use for reading codes AND monitoring/recording data off of your sensors, get yourself a hand held scanner from Auto X-ray. It may not be Auto Tap, but it definately does the job.
I had one that was invaluable when I had my 95 Z28 and 85 Corvette. If you have something like that and a Helm's manual for your car, you can troubleshoot almost anything. I got mine a few years back for $150-$175. I ended up selling it when I got rid of my last OBD 1 car (the Vette).
Auto X-ray has an OBD 2 tool for I think $200-$250. You can get them directly from Auto X-ray or if you spend some time searching on the net you can usually find it cheaper.

A little cheaper and a good choice also, http://www.sunpro.com/cgi-bin/web_st...d=9209715_2889 . Advance Auto, AutoZone should have these in stock.
