o2 SS = crappy gas mileage

o2 SS = crappy gas mileage
I bought my o2' 1LE SS the day after thanksgiving. Since then I have put about 1500 miles on it. The problem is that I have yet to get a tank of gas to last me over 200 miles. Most people I talk to say they get anywhere from to 250 at the least to well over 300 on the highway. Every tank has averaged in the 13-15 mpg area, and this is with pretty decent driving. Both highway and city. I took it to the dealer and they said to run 87 octane (wtf?) and also said that my mileage was normal and everything is fine. The car deffinatley dosen't have the power that it is supposed to (345 hp version) and I could easily get out run by stock Z's all day long. So if the dealer won't do anything, what are my options. I'd really expect more from a 35,000 dollar car. This is really aggrivating. Thanks, Jason

although i only got the 325 version... i never get 200 miles out of a tank either... my closest was 190.. and i was driving like an angel for that tank. I put 94 in my car only and i refuse to put 87 in it. My car actually taps and pings when i put 87 in it. I get free gas so it really doesn't matter anyway. But i dunno, i thought about takin it to a dealer.. but i thought to myself, wat are they gonna do? and so i said oh well lol. I still get 30 on highway, but around town is 13-15 like u.

O2 sensors? Fuel filter? How well is it tuned?
I'd say run 91 octane or higher, it'll ping at 87. You might be running really really rich, and that would do it.
I was getting 17.7mpg for my "city" drive to work and back each day, then with a pair of dying o2 sensors and pulling the emissions, it slammed to 13.6.. So check up on that. You're obd2 - can you get any codes pulled?

FREE GAS........hook me up......
i get 200 almost always to the tank....
obd2 he would have to be getting a ses light so he can pull any code... so im guessing your question is if he is getting a ses light?

I dont know that much about obd2, but I know the obd1 cars can throw certain codes all day long without tripping a SES light... I have noticed EGR codes not trip it (though you'd think they should), An "eeprom error" code not trip it, and a few others. The "excessive lean" error came in when I accidentally had a nasty exhaust leak, but the o2 voltage from my scanmaster is pig rich from the o2 sensors, and no code has been thrown.

That is pretty normal gas mileage for breakin, mine got bad mileage for the first 3-4K miles...now it's doing better at 6-7K miles.
I get about 220-230 with a mix of freeway and in town, plus me hammering on it!

Don't use 87 octane, use premium. I used 87 for about a week until I accidentally pumped 93. Man did it run smoother and I noticed it because I was travelling out of town. Later I realized I was supposed to be using premium fuel. And about your car not running how it should, well maybe its not broken in yet. Thats my opinion. Through experiance and other friends experiences, I have noticed SOME cars don't come out of their shell right away. One of my buddies has an 02 cobra. With about 2000 miles on it ran it twice and could not get below 15.sec on 1/4 . Several months later he ran it with about 10k on it and ran a low to mid 13.sec on the 1/4. Much better than before. This guy I know was getting killed by z28's with his new SS several months ago. Now those same Z'S aren't able to beat him anymore. Just give it some time and I sure the sleeping giant will awaken out your car.

If you read your owners manual it states "They reccommend the Use of Premium fuel for optimum performance"
The LS1 is a faily high compression engine....I buy the highest octane I can find 91-93 is all that has even been in any of my Z28 and SS.

I thought my mileage was bad @220 per tank, guess not. As for yours being slow, I've heard that the LS1 computer learns how you drive the car and makes adjustments accordingly ie if you drive it like grandma the ECM gives a slightly less aggressive set of parameters, on the other hand if you drive it like you hate it, it uses a more aggresive set.
Now I have no clue if that's true or not, but: Ive driven my TA fairly aggressivly since day one, and it dynoed @ 324 hp and ran a 13.2 @108 with less than 500 miles on it, so you may give that a try. Fill it with 93 and drive it like you stole it, and see if that makes a difference
