Unhappy Not another exhaust question

I searched around but I have to ask.
Anybody hear or do this....LS1 with Mac headers and orp , with cats only...no muffler? For cost for now i would like to do this and if sounds like crap I will buy a catback in the next month. Magnaflow or LM. Thanks for any input.

hmm. I never heard a car with that set up before. I bet i would be extremely loud with no muffler though and would probably get annoying after a while. Try it out and see man,and let us know.

I have MAC Headers, ORY, cutout, Hooker Aero Chamber. Car also has a lopey Hotcam

With the cutout closed it sounds great. The Aero Chamber has an awesome idle sound, but it's too quiet on throttle for me. Which is why I bought the cutout. I don't have cats by the way. It's VERY loud with the cutout open, but without cats or a bullet, it's very raspy under ~2700 RPMs. After that, it sounds awesome. It's very loud. I'm used to the loud, it does not phase me, but I'm sure to the average person they would not like it. But I do hate the rasp, and I haven't had the cutout open in over a week now

I would say don't get a catback, they make some nice tones but if you are going after performance I say skip a catback and go with True Duals. I'm going to be getting mine soon as I get the parts ordered (2x bullets, 1x X-Pipe or H-Pipe)

Weld them together yourself, and it will be cheap. With True Duals (/w bullets) it is said to have minimal to zero rasp with an awesome tone. I can't wait

But if a catback is what you want, go for GMMG

Just run the stock cat back .
Then you can get a decent one when you can aford it.
It will be louder just w/the headers & ORP.
The rasp will vary with your catback selections.
But as said B-4 bullets will help you out there.

thanks for the input. I'll order the headers and y pipe first and do the rest later, maybe just !cats and put in some bullets.

I have friends who have similar setups to what you are proposing. After you install the headers and y-pipe fire the car up before you connect the muffler. I think you will be surprised. The cats act as mufflers to quiet the exhaust and they also eliminate raspiness. When you install the intermediate pipe it will quiet the exhaust down slightly more. If it seems too loud for you then you might consider putting a bullet type muffler in the intermediate pipe to quiet it down even more. The advantage of this type of system is the weight savings you get by eliminating the very heavy stock muffler. You will also lose alot of restriction in your exhaust which will give you a horsepower and performance gain.

Cool , I had a few buddies with WS6's ANd SS's who both did this and yah it wasn't that ridiculous at all.It sounded kind of snotty and deep from outside the car. I just know they didn't dyno them to see actual numbers, that is why I was curious. Thanks. I guess eventually the cats will plug off and would have to be removed anyways though right????

Most of the dyno sheets I've seen show the Loudmouth is worth about 15 hp over the stock exhaust. Cats last over 100,000 miles with only reasonable care.
