Post This normal.......

I have a 99 trans am thats an A4 with 3.23's and if I am going like 15 or so and kick it when it shifts to 2nd it will bark the tires pretty good! I am not manually shifting. All I have done is a whisper lid and k&n. Is this normal?

I dont know if this info will help you any since i have a M6. But i have lid and LM, i can bark tires into 3rd with stock 3:42 gears. So i think you should be doing so into second at the least.

Thumbs up

Yes, this is what we in the V8 world refer to as "power"

You should explain this to every fart piped car you see, right after helping him put his doors back on

Seriously though, your gonna get that with these cars when you floor it.

I test drove a 99 T/A a while back and it did the same thing. I was sold on the LS1 after that. My 2000 Z28 does the same thing also. Have fun.

Cool

Don't try that with the TCS on!It won't let you spin the tires. But it sure is fun with it off!

I did do it with the traction control on. I was just riding around town a nailed it and it barked the hell out of 2nd. Another question off subject but what do yall think a stock A4 97 WS6 would run?

See, that's weird....I have a 2002 Z with 2.73's. If I'm at a stand still, and floor it, the wheels will hop a bit then grab.

As far as getting on it from a roll though, I never seem to really break the tires loose when the car shifts down. Traction control is off as well. Maybe They're spinning, and they're not just squeeling Seriously though...any ideas anyone?

If I nail it from a stop with the traction control off I will lay a patch 25 to 30 feet long. Glad some people have had this happen before.

When you nail it from a stop and lay a 25 ft patch....is that from an idle, or powerbreaking with RPM's way up??? I assume you are launching with RPM's high...true?

And again, I have trouble chirping second, only works sometimes.....anyone else find this?, and if not...any clues why that is for me?

No, I am just sitting at idle with a friend in the car everytime I have done it and I nail it and just lay patch for days. I have my tire pressure at 30psi.

mine dont bark gears through the shifts, but i have a TC. barking tires = slower times. im much more impressed by a car that can hook up and shoot off. whats power if you cant put it to the ground?

thats why. he has 3.23s.

That means that for every 100 Ft lbs (ignoreing driveline losses, they will be very close on both cars) he puts to the tranny in first, he gets 988 ft lbs at the tires. with 2.73s you are only putting down 835

(I left out the TC's because I dont knwo any of the specifics on the Tq multiplication, but you get the Idea)

at a low torque dyno of only 300 ft lbs that means he puts down 2964 FtLbs and you only put 2505 Ft Lbs to the tires. that 450 Extra foot pounds can make a big difference.

Even with the same 2.73s, a really strong car might do it and a weaker one might not. then there are the other unknowns, traction coeficient of the roads you are both on, temperature differences...
