Question non Z-Rated Tires

I'm going to need new tires soon and I was wondering if there are tires that will fit my car that aren't Z-Rated. These factory Goodyears have 42K on them and are almost at the wear bar, which is pretty decent. I don't go to the track, so I'm not concerned with that type of traction, but I want these tires to last longer than my factory ones did. Does Goodyear or Michelin make a non Z-Rated tire for the Z28 that's a little cheaper, wears longer and provides great traction in wet weather?

yes they do make them.....but z rated is also so it can take on higher speeds not for traction and stuff

check out www.tirerack.com . You'll see exactly what models Goodyear and Michelin have to offer. Plus there are reviews, available size charts as well as pricing.

Check out the Eagle HP. It looks like it may be what you had in mind.

Yeah, the rating is a SPEED rating not a traction rating. If you ever plan on playin with your car on the highway, don't slack on the rating unless you want your tire to fall apart at a really high speed. The better the rating, the rubber is made to withstand more and more heat to accompany high speeds.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll look into that Eagle HP, or maybe something from Michelin or BFG if they offer anything good.

The treadwear number determines stickiness of tire lower the number better the stick coarse shorter life w/ low numbers.higher number harder tire longer life.
Yeah tire rack has a speed rating chart to decide what letter to the drivin you do. H is a good moderate number.

I agree with the other posters, tires are NOT the item to save money on.

JMHO, the "Z" rated tires are most likley built to closer tolerences, that is the rubber or compound used is more uniformley spread around the tire, it is probably volcunized to the sidewall better due to the higher speeds it must withstand.

Check into "Michelin Pilot Sports" killer tire!!!

Pay the extra money, and live to see another day.

Yes, the Kumho Ecsta 712s are an excellent choice. I got 4 of them shipped from Tire Rack for $380. I really like them too.

those Kumhos are fugly,I'd get the Falken 502s ZR16s over those same performance.Hell the NITTO 450s are still imo better than them. I put the BFG KDWs nice on my v6"since we're not skimping on money" The BFG KDs whip all of the above.
I'm getting BFG G-force TA KDs on my Z28,And a set of Kumho V700 or maybe TOYO RA 1s for the track on some take offs.
