newER car question?

OK I am looking at two cars: 1999 SS M6- 1999 Trans am M6
the SS-- all options, brand new clutch, M6- 130,2XX miles-- $8900, Good or no good?
the reason I ask id=s because the miles are crazy but it still blue books for $10,700
the trans am- full power, leather, M6, says low miles, $7800
give me a quick, in general, opinion of your choice. gotta find something soon, but I do not want to "settle". want to get the right one to replace the right one.
thanks for your input and opinions

Re: newER car question?

I personally wouldnt buy a vehicle over 70K if I planned on modding it. Even thats a little high. It all depends on the vehciles life before you get it. It could be a great car, or it could be a nightmare. Just take a good look at the cars, you can get an idea of how it was treated in the past. That does seem like alot of miles for that year.

Look around on message boards for cars for sale in your area, you will find a much more fair price. Almost 9k for 130k+ miles is high.

Re: newER car question?

most likely the one with lower miles.
one of the biggest mistakes people can make is always rushing in on buying a car. Shop around find a good deal because they are out there espcially during the winter season.

Thanks for the replies. Just drove my new one home:
2001 TA, M6, all options. very happy with it so far but I'm sure it will only get better. Let the modding begin

Enjoy your LS1. It's going to be night/day compared to the LT1. Toss some longtubes, a catback, lid, clutch in that bitch and hold on

The 2001 also has the LS6 intake manifold and 28# injectors, and may also have the 241 casting LS1 heads. Good buy.

Re: newER car question?

thanks guys, I had an LS1 few years ago so I know it's night and day but it feels ALOT different since I've been in an LT1 so much more. I am very excited, but now I get to be the newbie asking all the "what to do" questions. I have to get used to the clutch and the hurst shifter but I'm sure it won't be hard. LOL it has 80,XXX miles on it. I know its kinda high but the car is in immaculent shape in and out and completely stock xept for K&N filter. so I was happy for that too, maybe it hasn't been dogged too bad.
anyway I'll stop writting now and pictures will be coming soon(momma got a digital cam for Christmas) I'll put the pics in this thread
thanks again guys

No, the 241 casting heads, which are a different casting than the 97-2000 LS1 8xx heads.

Well i heard poking holes in the top of your hood will help with your ram air intake set=up, just grab a giant pitchfork and start ramming that bit** down in the hood, and your driveshaft take that to the shop and have it professionaly ported i heard it puts like an extra 20 hp to the wheel.

Chris, what specs did you want on the intake and the driveshaft?

LS1 F-bodies have aluminum driveshafts. Nice and light compared to the LT1's steel shaft. '01 and '02 LS1 cars have an LS6 intake manifold (same as the '01 Corvette Z06).

I don't know what information you're looking for.

What happened to your '96? Are the SFCs still in good shape? You should try and get them for your LS1 if possible.

This will be a nice improvement over your LT1. Enjoy!

that was what I wanted to know aluminum and LS6. I wasn't sure. the '96 was totalled earlier this month, went to the junk yard, insurance company wanted too much
