Newbie question ...

I'm new to the Camaro forum and had a question about the LS1 cars. Currently, I have a '95 Impala SS with all the bolt-ons: long tubes, cat-back, good 4L60E, Yank SS3600, 4.10, QA1s, Holeshot wheels, Hoosier QTPs, ... The best this thing will run is low 13s/high 12s. Not too bad for 4300+ lbs. I'm not really interested in going into the engine to change heads/cam. My question is how fast will a LS1 car go with similar mods ... air intake, headers, converter, gear, tires, ...? I'm looking for a "streetable" car that I can bracket race and eventually run in Stock Eliminator. I've seen several F-bodies run deep in the 10s in full race trim on a 9" slick. Also, are the stick cars quicker than the automatics? Maybe I could go this route and replace the transmission with a Jerico someday. I drove an '02 WS6 6-speed car recently (bone stock) and it made me sad to get back in my Impala. Just got me thinking ... Thanks.

Stock LS1's usually run 13.5 to 13.8 bone stock (@ 3420LBS. stock weight). With your above stated mods, and correct tuning you should easily be in the low 12's. The LS1's power is more linear on the dyno sheet, and it is just an all around better built motor than the LT1.

Well you need to remember F-Bodys are alot lighter then Impalas. With those mods an LS1 would be in 12's no problem. A manual transmission is not much faster then an auto (.1-.3) Depending on the driver the auto can be faster. LS1 times vary in stock form, the majority are mid to low 13s but I know a guy who pulled a 12.98 with just a K&N air filter on street tires.

Re: Newbie question ...

M6's are much harder to launch and harder on the weak 10 bolt, but are usually quicker from a roll. An A4 you can drop up .5-.6 sec from a converter alone. If you are going to make it a dedicated track car, go auto. Especially if you are going to bracket race where consistancy is the key.
