What are the disadvantages of going under the axle besides ground clearance?

Well there isnt any, but you WILL absolutely have to make them, where they can be removed. Because when you jack the car up on conventional jacks, the axle of course comes down and will lay right on your pipes. Just make them removable and you are set.

Does the axle ever hit the exhaust pipes when you go over something rough like rr tracks or going through an intersection. I'm thinking about dual exhaust and right now I'm leaning toward dumping in front of the axle. How did you like it before you extended it out?

On big dips it does, but it has to be pretty big. Tracks I don't know yet, haven't had the system that long. Before the reducer and the extensions were put on it was too loud in the cab for me. Outside it sounded outstanding, and when someone else drove my car past me at about 90, it was awesome, but around town driving, shifting and all, it was just too loud IMO. Now is muuuuccchhh better.

I never said you couldn't. I just chose this way. I hope this is okay with you? I chose to do it this way, because first the angle I had to deal with was almost 100 d, to go over the axle, and without mandrels, the crease was to significant. Second, I think the upper bar has to be removed for the over setup. This setup I have works fine. Is there a disadvantage that you know of that would make me change my mind?

PS. red-too bad you are a yankee we might could have raced sometime.

Looks pretty nice man I have to drive over too many speed bumps at work and on base to have to worry about that setup

I don't realy recommend that. My friend had true duals on his TA that ended before the axle. I also had it momentarily on my old 97 Z with LT headers.

You end out huffing the exhaust fumes when you sit in traffic or at slow speeds with the windows down. The fumes come out from under the car and right along the door. It can give you a headache after a while. That's one reason why the stock exhaust goes all the way to the back of the car. I know it's more expensive to have pipes bent to go over the axles and out the back, but I personally feel the extra $$ is worth your health. Just my $0.02

You ought to check out Bowling Green's F-Body Celebration that is held at the National Corvette Musuem. It is awesome. I have been the past 3 years and it gets better and better. Scott Settlemire is hoping for a 1000 cars this year. maybe we'll see you there.

Carrotop79 - I remember you and your car at the Bowling Green event last year. I can't wait to see this exhuast up close at the '04 event. (I drive a Black WS6, remember me? )

That's an interesting idea to have a set of pipes go under the axle rather than over it. I figured that the axle would bang the pipes every time you went over a speed bump or anything else in the road.

I'll be curious to hear a long term report on it in a few months. See you in September!

I will update you in a few weeks if it works out. If not, i will go with the ever popular "over" setup. I will definitely see you there this year! Can't wait to run a 12.99. As long as its in the 12's it counts! See ya man.
