New Ss, Need Some Help

HELLO,
Great forum thanks to the people who run it. I just bought a navy 2000 6spd with 18k. I always wanted one and now i have one but i have a few issues and i am sure you can help.
1) what weight gear oil and additive should i use?
2) One remote does not work is there a way i can reprogram without going to the stealership?
3) is there a way to look up my radio code?
4) is there a spot where the suspension specs are listed?
5) when it gets hot(10 minutes of driving) the powersteering whines. the fluid is full and the cap holds pressure.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and i tried the find the info on my one with no luck.

Engine Oil = 5W30 is preferred 10W30 is ok if in hot climate NOTHING heavier. DO NOT USE ADDITIVES!!!!!! Use a good oil Mobil 1 Full Synthetic is a popular choice and it's the factory prefill on the Corvette.

Remote = check the battery, then reprogram as follows:

1. Turn the ignigion key to RUN, then to OFF. This will disarm the content theft-deterrent/alarm system.

2. Remove the RADIO fuse. This fuse is located in the main fuse block which is located on the left side of your instrument panel.

3. Turn the ignition key from OFF to RUN three times quickly (within five seconds). The vehicle will respond by locking the doors, unlocking the driver's door and releasing the hatch. Your transmitter is now ready to match the vehicle. Leave the ignition in RUN.

4. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for 15 seconds. The vehicle will respond as in Step 3.

5. Repeat Step 4 for the remaining transmitters.

6. When you have finished matching all of your transmitters, replace the RADIO fuse.

7. Check that all transmitters work by pressing the buttons.

Radio code?? you mean the security setting?? if so you're screwed if you don't know. Dealer has to reset $$

What kind of suspension specs??

Can't help with the steering

Thanks great info for the remote. I should have clarified my first question as i meant the rear end gear fuild weight and additives not engine oil. When i say radio code doesn't GM have some security b.s. that screws up the radio if the battery is disconnented?

Yeah it does but it has to be activated.

Just below your volume button is a little led. When you turn off car does it blink red?? If so your code is programmed. If not it's not.

If your radio is in the locked mode the dealer can take care of that problem, I've never heard of anyone paying to get the radio unlocked.

I had the power steering whinning problem on a 99 SS I once owned, I removed the fluid from the tank using a turkey baster and refilled ( to the correct level ) it with Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. After about a 100 miles I repeated the same process, you may not get the whinning to stop a 100% but it should help quite a bit.

One of many threads about rear end lube, http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...+end+gear+lube .

Rear end gear oil...

I used AMSOIL with no additive. Some synthetics already have an additive in them.
75w90 synthetic gear lube is what I used. I didnt add any of the additive since the oil already had it.

No problems at all.

In the Directions for programming the remote it says to "remove radio fuse" I'm no genius but won't that lock my radio and as i have discovered the light does blink on the radio so i will have to have a dealer reset? I do not know the code.

your radio code should be in your manual... i believe in the back... I will check on that for you and get back.. but there is instructions in the manual to unlock your radio with that code... if you don't have the original manual, then you are "screwed" and have to get it reset by dealer.. in which case, dealers are slimy creatures and will probably charge an arm an a leg.. its their nature.. they cant help but being dirt bags...

ok I lied.. my code is hand written in my manual from the original owner or dealer being very smart... so you might not be that lucky...

75W90 gear oil will suit your needs for the rear differential. (I assume that's whtat you were referring to.) Be sure to use a full synthetic fluid, like Slick50 or Mobile1. Conventional gear oil will overheat and burn in the differential housing, ruining the bearings and creating a stink like you can't believe. Unfortunately I know that from experience.... the chevy dealer in Eufala Alabama did that for me They then had the nerve to not honor the warranty on the repair I always enjoy "hooking them up" for the "excellent" service they provided me with some free advertising

Anyhow, use synthetic fluid and definetly add the GM slip additive. You will destroy the clutch packs in your posi unit without!
