New to owning LS1

New to owning an LS1...I have an '00 Z28 w/ 50k.

I don't know what kind of oil it has in it now...should I switch to synthetic, or maybe a synthetic blend? Is that recommended for a motor w/ 50k on it?

Is there anything prone to failure or early wear, or anything else I should check for? It has the SOTP wow factor down pretty good ...now I just want to keep it in good shape through 100k.

I like Castrol Syntec 5w-30. Don't need synthetic as long as you change the oil every 3,000 religiously. Don't freak out about the temp guage...it's a dummy for the most part. Keep an ear out for audble pinging. Some 2000's knock from the factory when they're floored. Oh, and get yourself some subframe connectors for "preventative maintenance" (and better handling).

Re: New to owning LS1

That's another question I have....what are the "normal" pegs for the temp and oil pressure gages when the car is warmed up? My old 3.4 and 3.1 used to drop to between 4-8lbs of oil pressure at idle, but everyone said that was fairly normal.

Thanks

99+ temp guages are dummy guages. They'll rise to a given point and set there.
