New to me DRL disable actually works!
 

I have been asking around for quite some time on how to disable the DRLs while keeping the auto headlights.
All I get in response is the mod where you jump 2 circuits in the DRL module. Sure, you lose the DRLs this way, but it also knocks out the auto headlights.
Then I recently heard a mod that someone put forth, saying that they didn't want to lose the DRLs, so they weren't going to do the mod, but that it should work. So I decided to be guinea pig.
Here's the mod:
Unbolt the radio and pull it out, no need to unplug wiring.
Unclip DRL module from ductwork.
There are 2 plugs going into the module, you want the larger of the 2.
Cut the following wires:
Dark Blue
Lt. Blue
Dark Blue/White stripe
Lt. Blue/White stripe
Then permanantly connect together the wires as follows:
(This is the car side of the wires, module side of wires are abandoned.)
Lt. Blue/White stripe connects to Lt Blue.
Dark Blue/White stripe connects to Dark Blue.
Put module, radio, and bezel back.
Done

That's all. Now I have no DRLs and have kept my auto headlights.
Now we have mods for all 3 options:
1) Lose the auto lamps, keep the DRLs by pulling the sensor and replacing with a resistor.
2) Lose the DRLs, keep the auto lamps with the above mod.
3) Lose BOTH by opening the DRL module and bypassing the circuit noted in the other mod.

Take your pick.

Aren't daytime running lights required by law? That's why I didn't mess with them - one more reason to get pulled over.

The law requires car manufacturers put them on cars. I don't know anything about requiring you to keep them. I can't imagine an officer even noticing.

Seen any Fords with DRLs? I didn't think so.

It's not a law (yet) but rather a "suggested course of action"

You know, you're absolutely right, I never noticed.
That's why I said a lawman wouldn't notice, because so many cars don't have them and he doesn't have time to figure out what year a car is and if it should or shouldn't have them by law... but I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I like the safety aspect of them on the highway, and when I am on a highway with any of my vehicles I will turn the headlights on (if they don't have DRLs). Around town though I don't feel DRLs are needed. They might be safer in town too, but it just seems like overkill to me. Then to top it off, I bought clear corners for the look of clear corners, with DRLs on you still have pumpkin corners.
I guess it's all in one's taste, and this is mine.

I like them all, but wish there was a button to disable lights at night.. Guess it wouldnt' be to hard to set some kidna switch/relay up.

It's a matter of control to me.
I want as much control of my car that I can get.
The lights are a small thing but I want to be able to turn the lights on and off as I think I need them. It's nice to be able to black out at night if you want to.

What years of the Camaro will this work on ? i have a 2014,will this work for mine as well

I would say with the change in technology between a 1998 model and a 2014 model, the chances that the details contained herein would also work on a 2014 is highly unlikely.
