New to LS1's; what parts needed to handle major tq?
New to LS1's; what parts needed to handle major tq?
I'll be selling my 94 z28 and will probably be buying a LS1 Vette or Camaro. What do you need to handle 480+ rwtq with an LS1? Forged crank? Rods? Pistons? Transmission? Rear end? I know the rear end on Vettes and Camaros are different, what's the story on each to handle serious tq?
Re: New to LS1's; what parts needed to handle major tq?
Vettes have IRS, camaros do not. So that's the main thing as far as the rear end goes.
The rear end on the Camaros are pretty weak.. so you may end up having to swap out to a stronger rear end

Re: New to LS1's; what parts needed to handle major tq?
To produce that much power, the stock engine internals are fine.
To Handle the power:
The 4L60E is the same transmission used in the LT1 F-bodies, so, yes, a rebuild is going to be necessary sooner or later.
T-56:
Sooner or later, you can rebuild with stock components with the exceptions of steel shift forks and carbon-fiber blocker rings.
F-body: Rear-end will explode with little provoking.
Vette: Stock rear is good for 1.6 60 foots. If you wanna hook harder, you can buy a hardened driver-side output shaft for the IRS ($300)

Re: New to LS1's; what parts needed to handle major tq?
Thanks. I should have put that number closer to 550+ rwtq. I plan on turbocharging. If possible I would like to buy the car with some of the internals and drivetrain able to handle that with drag radials. I could have searched, but I wanted to possibly get everything in one thread about what can handle what.
