Smile New here!

Hi folks! I'm new here. I just got a 2000 Camaro Z28 6spd. The car has 48,728 miles. Unfortunately, the car has a broken fuel tank, the Monsoon radio is not working, and other minor details. But overall the car is in excellent condition. Right now is at the dealer. They are repairing it. I hope they do it right.

I'm new with these cars. I don't know much about them. What things I have to look, for example, what is the best oil to use, which are the best spark plugs(if this engine use them), common problems, etc.

I will appreciate any information. Thanks!

Welcome to the board and the world of F-bodies
Sorry to hear about your car's problems but they don't sound too bad.
As for oil to use most use Mobil 1 (5-30).

Some of the problems, none of which are serious would be the EASILY warping brake rotors (just replace 'em), oil burning, and power window motors. I might be missing some but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

If you plan on doing any future repair or modification work yourself check out www.projecttransam, I got alot of ideas there.

Enjoy the ride

Broken fuel tank??? What's wrong with it?

How dare you to forget the infamous piston slap???

Don't worry, Mr SE-R, it's usually nothing to worry about. Just a bit of tapping from the engine, that's all. There's no "real" cure for it, you just have to live with it.

Unless you are doing some serious modifications, the stock plugs are fine still another 50K miles. If you want to change them, go ahead. I guess many people use the NGK TR55's. Right?

I haven't really looked into changing them yet, since my car has barely broken 40K miles.

Mobil One is the one I'd suges using. That's the only oil I've ever used in any of my F-bodies.

Congrats on the purchase and enjoy!!!

Thanks my friends for your answers.

Well, I don't know how the fuel tank broke. I bought the car last saturday. When I tested the car it was almost empty and everything seems OK. At night I put $10 of gas and then I saw the tank was leaking fuel. You can't put more than a quart and a half of gas on it because it will start leaking.

The other minor problems are, the power window(driver side)does not work . And I was getting worried about a noise that I heard generally when the car is cold. That noise is that piston slap(tapping). The noise is gone after the car is hot. Is this normal? Thanks for let me know.

I also discovered that the Monsoon radio is disconnected on the back. I have to buy a new plug to connect it. ALL the cables were cut by the last owner . I check the internet and I found the new plug. It cost $14.95.

I will keep you posted about the progress of the repairs. THANKS again my friends.

Pretty impressive numbers! But I think Mr SE-R's car is the older body style, though.

UPDATE!

Well, I called the dealer. They fixed the car. The only thing is that they are waiting for the radio wiring. The problem with the fuel tank was, the last owner had a music system on this car. Apparently this assh@le screw some bolts in the trunk(car floor) of the car for a speaker amp and the bolts were too long that perforated the fuel tank. Well, at least the dealer fix it. I hope to have the car next Friday. I already have a date with a girl that work with me and I don't want to miss it.

What an idiot! Hopefully there won't be too many other surprises that genius has done...

At least you can now put a bit more gas in it.
