New Exhaust for my Z
Want to replace my stock exhaust system with something that's just a little louder. Something that has a little more of the muscle car sound, but I don't want to break the bank. What's the way to go?
It sounds like the Hooker cat-back is perfect for you. It's a great bang-for-the-buck, and the sound and performance is awesome! I ran one on my '98 T/A for two years but finally upgraded to a 4" Mufflex after the 383. The sound was unmatched, and it flows just as well as the other quality systems out there.
Let me know if you're interested, and I can get you one.

You could do what I did... get a Flowmaster 80 Series muffler. There are pro's and con's with this setup.
PRO: CHEAP! the muffler can be had for under $100 and installation shouldn't be all that much -- probably around $50-100. It sounds really good, IMO. Definitely louder but not too much so. No drone on the highway in my M6 Trans Am. And when you get on it, you really know it's there.
CON: Flowmasters don't flow as well as a lot of other systems. If you're running the stock exhaust, anything is better so you'll notice an increase in power. But it might not be as much as some of the freer flowing systems. Then again, you're talking more $$$ for them.
Bottom line... I'm happy with it. Sounds great, was very inexpensive by comparison, and you will see an increase in power. If you want to spend more money, you can definitely get something better, but it'll cost you.

Dynomouth!
This inexpensive mod uses a DynoMax bullet as the replacement for your stock muffler.
A little perspective: Flowmaster flows about 300 cfm, Borla about 900, the DynoMax bullet over 2200 cfm.
I got mine, parts, shipping, AND professional install... for ~$140.
