Need some help with coolant light

I know this should be simple, but my light came on tonight. I added water to the resivore, then started it. the light was still on. B/C I just got home, I let the motor cool off and checked the radi. I added some to this and the light is still on!! All the while the temp is fine. I even DROVE it to get it hot, but nothing. WTF!!

The sensors are junk, replacements apparantly not much better. I just disconnected the connector to mine so the light would go off.

Very common problem w/4th Gens. You have three options: unplug it, try cleaning it or replace it.

It may not be the sensor, have you tried bleeding air out the system? that happened several times with my dad's Z28... bleed the air out and it goes away.

There are no air bleeding problems with the LS1 setup. The sensors are so bad that GM gave up on them an deleted them in 2000.

I see, in 2000 + how do you know if you're low on coolant?

if you do pull off the sensor, you should be careful, cause once you pull if off the radiator...coolant is coming with it...

The same way people have for the last 100 years. Check it manually every once in a while.

Re: Need some help with coolant light

Sorry about the delay. I guess it is the sensor, but does this sound right. When you start it up cold, no light. But when you drive it and get it real hot(not just ideling), it comes on. Start it in the morning, It is off. The delay was b/c of that GD hurricane, needed to get ready for it, this one is coming right at me this time!

Re: Need some help with coolant light

Thanks, the coolant light is the last thing I'm worried about w/ my car. It will be out side during this little storm!

On my '99 , the coolant light would come on when it was cold - after the temp gauge reached the 1/4 mark I could turn the car off, restart it, and it would go off.

I say would cause I got fed up, and unplugged the wires !

It was a known problem on the '99's - not sure if the '98's had 'em, and they dropped this in '00.

I went through 3 before unplugging it.

That's weird that yours is working 'backwards" - ?

Britt

P.S. Good luck with the hurricane !
