Need a smooth idling cam

I want a cam similar to a stock 02+up Z06 but better. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket cam with a stock idle? Sound clips would be appreciated if you have them.

Some people like the 220 cams and I've heard the 224R can be pretty tame... but I am waitin for a 232/234 cam to come in.

Everyone says "Its all in the tune"; if you get someone to tune the car after the swap, it will run and idle great! Don't skimp out on the tune ($4-500 ish, right guys?) Also, I believe the Lobe Separation Angle (LSA) needs to be higher for a *better* idle, depending on what your definition of better is. 114 LSA or higher for your needs, lower for a choppy grumble.

I will do the tuning, I have a wideband and HP tuner as it says in my sig. I want a cam that has a idle EXACTLY like stock, they did it with the z06 so I would imagine someone in the aftermarket makes one. Maybe I should just get a custom grind?

^ Just what I was thinking... Just enough lift and duration to feel it...

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
"CheaTR" - 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA.
Off Idle-6800 RPM Power Band. Broad power range. Works well with stock exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Stock like idle. Minor tuning required on automatic transmission cars. Responds very well to nitrous. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Double valve springs and titanium retainers required for this cam.
-OR- For something a little different....

"TR 220-114" - 220/220 .551/.551 114 LSA
1500-6500 RPM Power Band. Computer Tuning Required with automatic transmission cars. A very well balanced camshaft that makes excellent power across the entire RPM range. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

Check out the Lingenfelter GT2-3. It idles totally stock.

The other stealthy grinds do have a slightly irratic sound to them.

I've heard good things about the GT2-3. I have heard that it does have a slight loop at idle and I've also heard that it doesn't so I'm not sure about it. Then again I've also heard exhaust clips with the zo6 cam some have loop others don't, I guess it IS all in the tune.

A friend of mine had the GT2-3 and GTP ported heads. It idled like stock and put down 400 whp.

A tune does make a huge difference though. I met a guy who has a G5X3 cam that idled like my 226 grind.

So assuming the tune is ironed out a "stock" smooth idle is achievable. I guess I'll just call lingenfelter to confirm. What can I do to the tune to help the idling?
