hey guys-
my buddy with an 02 Ws6 wants to slap on this powerdyne blower. he didn't know how many #'s but they told him ~170hp so i presumed 8#
i laughed at him. a stock ws6 with 10.x :1 compression running 8#'s?
will this work?
it comes with an intercooler fuel pressure regulator and fuel injectors.
Will his t-56 hold? i presume yes
will his rear hold?
will his clutch hold?
how long will his motor hold
i told him to get headers.
i suggested bottle for daily driver...
he thinks 11's with
i said not on your stock rear
so he said hes gonna launch easy and then gun it at 20mph... good luck getting 11's like that
anything else he should do?
i know the fuel pump on the LT1 wont hold, the LS1 differnet?
i told him to only run 4# pully
i figured it would get him around 75-85hp
i told him a cam/rockers and headers would get that for him without any added problems- but again he refused.
for the $2k hes blowing on this kit..(gets it at cost) he can do a bad *** heads and cam combo!
any and all input is appreciated..
thanks guys

My 2 cents, and I am definatley not a SC expert.
8# to much for a stock motor in my opinion
Clutch will not last long so my as well look for a better setup
Rear will suffer after better clutch is installed
Not the mention other small details..... Like tranny, better make sure he has SFC's and traction will also be a very big issue.
I am sure some may disagree with my opinions on this but I have seen to many F-Bodys go this route and suffer in the end.

8 pounds isnt too much with an intercooler, vortech makes a 9 pounder.
will it work? who knows. if its not am actual manufactured kkit its iffy. but it might be fine
trans should be OK
Clutch mill probably slip but it might not eat itself depending on how he launches and what kind of tires he uses
rear may or may not hold but for how long is debateable. ot will evantualy destroy itself
11's can and have been done on stock motored cars, (with 4.10s, lid, tires and catback, but with stock manifolds and cats)thats without NOS or other power adder, so 11's isnt a far fetched Idea. the question is wheterh he can drive it to 11's. Hell obviously need tires
most kits come with a "helper" fuel pump
bottom line, its his car. if he would rather d tha blower than heads/cam, let him... offer your oppinion and let hm decide to take it or leave it

wouldn't it be extremely unreliable, especailly for someone who can't do their own work on their car?
Tis was my understanding the powerdyne was 6lbs of boost and thats it. He should be fine has long as he doesn't drive like he doesn't care...Having street tires and no drag radials and stuff like that will keep his rear going good...For a bit of insurance he can get a little reinforcing for about 25 bucks...Its a extra ring(crush sleeve?) they put in the gear setup to help absorb the impact. Doesn't drop the clutch he will be fine...Clutch...will go depending on his driving. Traction will be a issue but if you think about this...the less traction he has the less chance he can shock the rear. I should be pushin about the same amount of power in my setup..(heads/cam) and I don't have a problem...I have all the suspension goodies known to man reinforced rear...Stock clutch...DOn't have a problem(knock on wood)

the flip side is heads, and cam. they will always be there no matter the RPM. hell lose more down low than the supercharger if he goes to a big cam, and the Idle will be rougher. gears and tuning will help but the question is what is he willing to put up with?
thats why I dont reccomend eitehr. its a matter of personal oppinion.
I love the sound of a big cam, and can live with the added noise, lost low end and rough idle. In fact I get off on the lumpy sound and feel of a big cam. He might hate it..
Of It were a daily driver and he had NO other transprotation I would reccomend leaving it the heck alone. either set up could be problematic.
Heads and cam cars do have the bennifit that more of them are out there and most of the problems have been run into, so ther is more help available if you need it...
EDIT{ Please excuse any odd typos, I just had eye surgery, and I still cant see the screen all that well

I was looking under the hood of an LS1 SS this weekend. He installed a Vortec SC with cooler and running 7 pounds.
He got heads and cam done at the same time because he didn't want to run 7# on the stock motor.
(I took pics if anyone wants to see it)
