need help finding the VIN number

I can't find the location of my engines VIN number, I would like to check the vin to see if it matches the car since I am 99% sure this is not the original engine. Im not too familiar with car parts so if someone could steer me in the right direction of where to look and what I would need to remove that would be great, thanks.

I haven't heard anything about 'matching numbers' on LS1's.
