Need help with exhaust decision....

I have a 2000 Camaro SS with the stock SLP exhaust (car is stock). I want to put in a chambered muffler (from www.classicchambered.com) in the i-pipe and placing a cutout in between the chambered muffler and stock muffler. So when I open up the cutout I'll have the chambered muffler sound (which is loud I'm sure) and when closed it will sound like stock. Am I right?

One of my questions were when the cutout is closed, I will lose some HP right? Due to flow in the chamber and stock muffler? I didn't find much information on how long the OA length should be? Should I get a short, medium or long powerstick?

I had a loudmouth on my previous car but my girlfriend said it was too loud and during night time driving I would like it to be quietier. I like how the GMMG sounds but just dont want to pay so much for it. Do you think this will be a good idea? Please reply back and share your thoughts on this one.

Get a chambered if you don't mind having a bottle neck in your exhaust. The inside diameter is 1/4" smaller than the inlet diameter on them. All they are are glorified, overpriced glasspacks.

If you want to keep great flow get a bullet or twister type muffler.

Re: Need help with exhaust decision....

thanks for the reply. but the new 3" powersticks on classicchambers.com are 3" flow straigt through. that should be much better then the other chambered mufflers right? and isnt a loudmouth a bullet muffler? i had that on my previous camaro and it was way too loud. and whats a twister muffler?

Re: Need help with exhaust decision....

It says the core is 3", but a bullet or spiral muff will still have less turbulence.

IMO, they're still just crimped glasspacks.

Re: Need help with exhaust decision....

yeah true. im going more towards sound s and i hear it gives that 60's muscle car sound.

since you've been replying back let me know your thoughts about this setup.

well my exhaust is stock slp which I like at time when theres like a cop near me or when I'm driving at night or our with my gf cause she doesn't like it too loud.

so my though is to keep the slp muffler and place in a pwerstick (chambered muffler) in the I-pipe and a cutout after it. so instead of the cutout being after the cats it'll be after then powerstick and have a more controlled sound. so flow will go through the powerstick first then out from the cutout.

so you think that setup is okay? all I would need is a 18" or 21" and electric cutout and bring it to a mufflershop then I'm good. let me know your thoughts. thanks

It'll work.
Just not my choice of muffler. Having had a 70 SS, no single muffler will make your car sound like an old V8 with duals.

No ricer there. lol IMO it'll also sound better than just an open cutout.

Re: Need help with exhaust decision....

By picking the shortest powerstick, how loud will the exhaust sound comparing to a loudmouth (scale from 1 to 10 and 10 being a loudmouth)?

I was going to pick the middle size powerstick which is

IN/OUT PART# CORE BODY DIA. BODY LENGTH OA LENGTH
3" 3026SB 3" 3-1/2" 20" 25"

and the shortest one will be

IN/OUT PART# CORE BODY DIA. BODY LENGTH OA LENGTH
3" 3020SB 3" 3-1/2" 16 " 21"

but I hear most people are running the shortest ones, so guys help me pick one

Okay guys I need help for this last one. So I should get the shortest stick from classicchambered is I'm going to put a cutout in the i-pipe also right? You guys think the 16" and cutout will both fit in the i-pipe?

Not trying to be an A$$, but do YOU have a tape measure? Go out and measure it...shouldn't be too hard to get a rough estimate.
