Need help on buying an LS1 T/A

Hi everybody, I currently own a 96 Camaro Z28 but not for long.
I want to get rid of it for an LS1 Transam.
I found 2 of them. One is a 98 TA A4 with 78000 miles on the clock and the other is also a 98 TA A4 but with 42000 miles .
Obviously I would prefer the lower milage one but I might only be able to afford the higher one.
What should I look for as far as problems are concerned?
What typically getting worn out at this kind of milage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jacques.

Actually, as long as everything was properly maintained, you should be fine. There is a guy on LS1.com that just put a blower on his 110XXX LS1. It's been fine for 8,000 miles now.

Hi,

Mileage does not mean alot on these cars. This is my 3rd fourth gen and while shopping I've seen cars with 20K COMPLETE BASKET CASES and I just sold my 93 TA with 100K that was in VERY clean shape. So it really depends on the condition of the car.

I will say this though if you are buying from a dealer remember that the wholesale to retail is a big gap so a dealer will ask 18000 for a car you could probably get for 14000. Sometimes they're into them too much and can't give you a good deal but if you hunt around you'll find one I found my 01 WS6 with 13,200 miles on it for 19,700 when most of them I've seen are 23-24K. Just be patient and find the car in the best shape with the lowest miles. But if the 78000 mile car is in better shape than the 42000 buy it. BTW for a 98 that difference in mileage shouldn't be too big of difference in price. You can probably get a 98 with 40k on it for the same price they are asking for the 78k if you look... (unless the car is a screamin deal) JMHO
