Need help BIG time, limp mode? MAF/O2?
Need help BIG time, limp mode? MAF/O2?
My friend just bought a 98 TA A4 and it developed the following problem. Well, first of all, it's highly modded, cams, heads, headers, and all kinds of other stuff.
So the problem is. When attempting to drive the car, it will usually go through first gear just fine, but in second gear, it doesn't want to shift into 3rd. Once up to about 25-30mph, and the RPMS are close to 3k, the RPMs will just surge, but the car does not go any faster. It will VERY slowly get faster, but like at 5k RPMs the cars only going like 40MPH.
We just replaced the MAF today. It was throwing O2 codes, and we're going to replace both front O2 sensors later. The car does not have cats and it has O2 sims. There is a slight possibilty that one of the sims has gone bad as well, but my mechanic said just worry about the fronts.
Would the MAF\O2 be causing this problem? If it was just the MAF causing it, now that it's fixed, how would I get the car out of limp mode?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Turn the key on but do not start the motor.
Pop the hood and open the fuseboxes.
Remove the PCM bat and PCM ign fuses.
Wait about 5-10 minutes.
Shut off key and replace fuses.
The PCM is reset to the factory default settings.
