Post Need advice on new tires badly

I just went to the track yesterday and have come to the realization that I need new tires. My best run was a 13.469 with a 2.2 60 ft. time. I am aware that the 60 ft. time is whats killing me, but I need some advice. I was looking at BFG G-force kd's but cant find them anywhere for a good price. I have found BFG kwd's for a good price but I am wondering if these are as good as the kd's. Also, are these good tires anyways? Ideally, the tires I want to end up buying would have a relatively long tread life (12k-15k) miles and would be great for street and strip. Im sorry for the long post I just want to get some advice because people here really give some good input.

BFG G-force tires are @ss for straight line traction.

If you want drag strip traction, buy a set of used 16" rims and get some drag radials or slicks.

I got some salad shooter '93 T/A rims for 25 bucks each, and am getting some MT Slicks to run on them for the track!

Don't care about extra rims and slicks, you won't have them on when you meet me at the stoplight so whats the point, just to say you have a faster time that you can't reproduce on the street?
If you really want better straight line traction, all the time, and a 12-15k life, go for the Nitto DRs, they meet your needs. But if its your daily driver they could pose a problem in the rain.

Does anybody else here think that the BFG's are bad for straight line acceleration? Anybody here have them on their car now and are satisfied or disatisfied? Also, if I were to buy Nitto's what kind specifically? Finally, exactly how bad do the Nitto's handle in the rain? I live in South Florida and all it does here in the summer time is rain, rain, rain. Again, thanks for any input.

Thumbs up

Well I havent had any problems with the Nittos in the rain even when getting on it quite a bit. Just keep in mind that with our cars you have to be careful with just about any tires in the rain. I've even managed just fine on the completely bald stock Eagle's in the rain.

Oh and BTW, I love using the Nitto's on the street. Just gotta get them nice and warm.

Get the Nitto Drags... I have 315/35/17's and love them.....And this is my daily driver, YEAR ROUND. Yes, even in the winter. If you have Traction Control no prblem.

You will see huge gains.. and they do last if you aren't at the track all the time.

You won't regreat it!!!!!!!!

Good Luck.

i have the kdw in the stock sizes on my '99 z-28 (a4, 3.23) and think that they grip well for a street tire from a dead stop. the goodyears that came on the car were awfull- from a stop i could light 'em up with anything over 1/2 throttle and then have the car kick sideways on the 1-2 shift under full throttle. it looked impressive, but...

with the bfg's i can nail the throttle, get a just little bit of spin then the car hooks and GOES. ymmv with a m6, though. on twisty pavement these tires are great, too. i can't imagine needing much more cornering power or steering response on the street than these tires provide.
