is it my water pump?
is it my water pump?
So last week while driving my temp gauge just immediately sweeps over and pegs out triggering the check gauges light, I pull over and a minute later the gauge settles back to normal and no further trouble, it did this 2 or 3 times last week, then this morning it buries but this time it takes a godd 10 minutes of sitting cooling down to go back, I limp it home and it pegs twice more on me, but after shutting it down for a minute it goes back to normal, is it my water pump or a gauge problem?
Re: is it my water pump?
spend $40 on an electric temp guage and find out...
if it just spiked and then came right back down as fast as it went up...i can see it being electrical...but if it takes 10 mins to "cool down"...that could be a cooling system prob.
any leaks from the pump?

Re: is it my water pump?
Those factory temp gauges are retarded, thats why i just installed my autometer one last week, now my normal temp reads 180 on the autometer but the cluster still reads 210 thanks gm! Anyway it sounds like a gauge problem, but do you see any other signs of overheating? Thermostat could be bad, especially if its not opening all the way, good luck.
