My check engine light came on the day after I bought my 98z. I took it to GM and they said my spark knock sensor set it off. A tech pluged up the car and started the engine reved it a few times and said that it had no spark knock. He cancled out the code but the same day it came back on. Could the sensor be bad ??? Is there any funny things that could show a spark knock that are nothing to worry about ???????

FYI...I hope you didn't pay $$$ for them to check the car. I know the dealers around here want $50~60 just to look at it. So, I usually go to Autozone or Advanced Auto and they have the capability to scan for & delete codes. Just some useful info. to keep in mind.

As for the sensor, I'd give it a few weeks. Get some good gas (i.e. 93 octane) to run through the system and maybe do a PCM reset with the fuses. Hopefully, that'll clear up the code.

 

I believe it's the 98 and 99's that had problems with the knock sensors, replace them is my advice.

 

Of course I did not pay the dealer to look at the car. I'm a tight wod. Also.... The thing they plug in your car at the dealer has many more options and features than the one at Auto Zone. Yes the code was erased and came back up. The dealer has to get the car to pass through marta so I'll let them deal with it. Thanx for the info
