Mods and Power Programmer Questions

02 SS, SLP cold air box, K&N, skip shift, all else is stock. I am going to add a Magnaflow cat back, 160 thermostat and am looking at the SLP MAF and bellows. Question is: When I add the cat back, 160 and MAF, will I need to get a Power Programmer (or another LS1 programmer) to get the car to "run right?" Is there any tweaking needed to get her to run as strrong as she should?

Thanks!

I wouldn't waste your money on the "smooth bellows" 50 bucks or so. To take advantage of the 160 thermo you will need the power programmer unless some (shop) reprograms your computer. You don't need the pwr prog for the catback system or the MAF. And if you have a M6 you want see big gains like you will with the A4 (shift firmness, shift points)

You can get used bellows for ~$20. For the Magnaflow, here is a link for the cheapest price I've seen.

If you run a combo of the Hyp. Power Prog. III and a MAF sensor, you might find that you're running a little too lean. I had the Granatelli MAF sensor + HPPIII and didn't like the way it sounded in the upper RPMs. So I went back to Granatelli, found out they started offering "cold air tuning" with the MAF sensors they're selling now and had mine recalibrated. The two reasons for the tuning was to richen the fuel curve and to prevent the sensor from throwing an SES code due to the extra turbulence found in the intake with the addition of a high flow intake setup (lid, FIPK, etc.). Everything on mine is fine now, and has been for the last two years...so I'm happy.

I have the granatellli (cold air) MaF combined with my 160 thermostat, ram air kit, cold air lid, and HPP3 tuning but still experienced detonation at high RPM's. THe only way I was able to remedy that, was to get higher grade octane fuel. The only fuel over 91 octane available in california is racing fuel (100) octane. However this fuel costs $5.43 a gallon!

The HPP3 is really useful when it comes to tuning the rear end and tranny. You wont need it for the exhaust or MAF sensor.
