Magical screw?

My buddy is telling me that there is a screw in the A/C system that allows you to "tweak" the pressure in the system....dropping it SEVERAL degrees with just a nudge. Anyone know if this is an old wives tale or is there truth behind it?

Re: Magical screw?

I can't say for sure if the F-body has one but last summer, much to my buddy's suprise, there turned out to be a "magic screw" on his Jeep Grand Cherokee that made his AC go from almost nothing to nice & cold,go figure,I couldn't believe myself, but it worked. His is around 10 or so yrs old so who knows,we may have one too.

Re: Magical screw?

So anyone have info on this? There has to be someone with a GOOD diagram of the entire AC system so we could track down likely areas

Re: Magical screw?

I'll probably be ripping out the rest of my a/c system sometime in the near future so if I see something, I'll post it.

Re: Magical screw?

Nope, no magic screw. When this was first posted I looked at my electronic service information and there is nothing there.

This is on my home system, so please be kind and keep the link on the DL.
The expansion valve is fixed.

Re: Magical screw?

I think that it has something to do with the pressure that is allowed into the system...seems like there should be an adjustment somewhere on there...or at least a way to tweak the pressure sensor so you get just a hair more?

Re: Magical screw?

Im the one that told chicago t/a about this screw. I guess its what controlled the pressure before it turned the compressor off. Something like that, i heard baout it on the impala ss forum and i know the B-Body LT1sd had a lil screw. It needs just a VERY TINY adjustment to change the pressure. I guess its a tiny screw recessed deep in a hole, im gonna go try and get mor einfo on this.

On a side note my 95 t/a will damn near freeze yo outta the car with the sun beating through the t-tops and my cars black with a dark grey interior. BRRRR
