Post MAF's-Save your money

I've read previous posts, about MAF's (Mass Airflow Sensors), not being worth the money.

I'd have cancelled mine, but it was too late.

I installed it and ran at the track, yesterday. I have to agree. I don't think it made one bit of difference.

Another item, is air filters. I tried running with a Holley Powershot, a K&N and the stock paper filter. I did run new best time, yesterday, but it was due to the Nitto DR's which hooked fairly well and finally breaking down and power shifting. The times, with all 3 filters, were about the same. In fact, I was running the paper filter, when I ran my best time.

Nothing to really brag about and the air was humid, but I ran a 12.998 @108.267 and frankly, I could have launched better. But, hey, it's my first run, with a 12 in front of it, so guess I'm happy about that.

Which MAF did you use? SLP or Granatelli? If you bought the SLP, save it for if/when you get some mods that can benefit from the increase in airflow (just a cam or heads and cam).

Comparing air filter is like comparing cat-backs, you are not going to see any major difference across the board.

I'm sure you had fun at the track even though the MAF sucked

I agree, aftermarket MAFs are a WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!

Unless you are running a big cube motor.

Thumbs down

I've been saying it for a year now, unless you have major power adders & need the extra flow, MAF's are a waste for money & don't help you, usually they end up hurting performance.

The MAF, was a Granatelli.

I switched while, I was at the track and did the same with the air filters.

I ran a 13.030 with the Granatelli and the Holley Powershot air filter. The 12.998 came with the stock MAF and the paper filter, the air box comes with.

The best thing about the Granatelli, I think, is the box it comes in!! Needless to say, it's going on e-bay, for sale! LOL

The big deal with the K&N is that yes it does flow better, but i think its major part is it is a lifetime filter. Plus it has that mean red tint to it.
