MAF clean, throttle problem fix!
MAF clean, throttle problem fix!
Just before I was about to post about a problem I had, I fixed it.
Recently I've had problems with my throttle response and power output. When at WOT in 2nd+gear my throttle would seem to cut out at about 2500rpm then regain its "Umph" at about 3500rpm. i had NO idea what the problem was, but it was very noticable (at 2500 it would almost throw me forward due to the lack of power). The GM dealership tech though it was because the previous owner cut off the silencer "tanks" on the side of the factory air-box. My new air-lid and filter is due to come in the mail tomorrow, so i took off everything MAF and forward. i got out some carb cleaner and got to cleaning. The MAF wires were CAKED in crap from the pvc, or whatever. So i VERY GENTLY took a few cotton swabs and some alcohol and cleaned them spotless. I reassembled everything and test drove to see if there were any changes. BIG DIFFERENCE!!! there is NO "throttle cut-out" now and acceleration is no longer jerky!
If anyone has this problem, try what I did.

Re: MAF clean, throttle problem fix!
there isn't anything introduced into the intake track ahead of the mafso it has to either be form the incoming air, or from too much oil on a K&N style filter.
but good fix...just a caution to be VERY carefull with anything actually touching the wires. it's better to just spray them off
Re: MAF clean, throttle problem fix!
I'd caution you about using carb cleaner. Its a bit stronger than T-body cleaner. You can also just get some spray electric contact cleaner. This way there is no touching.
Re: MAF clean, throttle problem fix!
eh. I'm sure you guys are right about what cleaner to use, I was VERY gentle. But all's well now, everyhting works so I didnt mees anything up. Well if an over oiled K&N is the culprit then its obvious my car was previously wrenched on, and had been returned to stock when i bought it. It had a paper element when I got it. too bad, tohught I had an unmolested car (before me)
