Lt1 to Ls1

hey everyone

i drive a 1997z28 camaro and was wondering what it takes to take my lt1 out and put a ls1 that i have siting in my garage into my car?

do i need to change wires, trans, rear end anything?

Well I do know that an LT1 T56 won't bolt up to an LS1....not sure about the auto though. I also believe you will need a different hood since the LS1 sits higher...or so I have heard from some. Maybe someone else can chime in about that.

all the wire have to be changed and you need the ls1 crossmember the lt1 wont work cause of the mounts. you can use the same hood i have a 94 with a ls1 in it. i just now changed all the wiring to an 01 harness it was time consuming though i will have my engine harness here next week to finish the job good luck

do i have to change the trans? or just the wireharness and mounts?

wiring, crossmember, computer, tranny the bellhousing are diffrent i believe not sure though. somebody will chime in though i got the ls1 with the 4l60e tranny combo

Is there something wrong w/ the LT1? That's a lot of dough to be spent just to get a few extra ponies. For a lot less you could make the LT1 just as fast as the LS1 if that's what you are going for. If there's something wrong w/ the LT1 you have and that's why you are replacing it, then ignore my post

eh i just like doing things that most dont have or have done, im more or less just throwing this up in the air, i probaly wont do it but still would like to someday.

my lt1 is in good shape and its on crack actualy lol, 285hp 310torque with just intake catback

For what you'd spend on that, you could mod the he!! outta the LT1...all depends on how fast you wanna go and what you wanna spend..You can easily get a LT1 in the 11's w/ a good heads/cam package, sometimes w/ just a cam and good gearing or you could get a good running bolt on LS1 6spd and also run 11's

Man we always here that course yet it would be cheaper, but I love my LS1 and yes I did have a very modded Lt1
