Re: LS6 vs LS7?

Comparing in terms of what? Power? Specs?

The LS6 was an upgrade to the LS1, only offered in the Corvette (and CTS-V I think? ) but not in the F-bodies. It's basically a heads/cam package on the LS1, although it also got its own specific intake manifold (which made its way onto the LS1's anyways). It's a 5.7L, rated at 405 HP, but I think that's under-rated (like most GM's are) since most '02 - '04 Z06's seem to dyno in the ~365 RWHP range, which translates to around ~415 - 420 HP at the flywheel. The first year LS6 (2001) was only rated at 385 HP though (it had a smaller cam and different exhaust configuration than the later years).

The LS2 stepped up to the 6.0L block (4.0" bore, 3.62" stroke, instead of the smaller 3.89" bore). It got a new intake, but the heads/cam? I don't know specifics on those? I know that they're "rated" at 400 HP, but I think in this case it's more accurate, because it seemed that once the '05+ C6's were out, they couldn't come close to the times that the C5 Z06's ran at the track (mid-high 12's, vs. low 12's, in the ~112 mph range vs. ~117 mph range).

GM called the LS2 a "Gen-IV" small block, instead of Gen-III (which the LS1/LS6, and the 4.8 / 5.3 / 6.0L truck engines all were). Pretty much everything is interchangeable between the 2 engines/generations, except they relocated a couple things, like the knock sensors .

Well, I think that's all I know to tell you .

so what does the LS2 in the base C6 dyno?

I believe I've seen reports of guys dyno-ing in the ~345 - 350 RWHP range typically .

I apologize if my #'s are not "exactly" spec on, but I've lurked around on Corvetteforum.com before , and there seems to be a very good wealth of knowledge over there for 'Vettes, as there is here for F-bodies . I know that early on, the C6 was hard pressed to run any better than ~12.7 or 12.8 . I think a ~12.6 was one of the best times I saw for that car. It's quicker than an LS1 C5 or F-body, but not by much. Meanwhile, there were LOTS of guys posting LOW 12's (anywhere from 12.0 - 12.2) with C5 Z06's.

Lately I haven't been on that forum at all, so I don't know how the stock C6's have been doing with more time in the driver's seat, and more miles on the engine?

And FWIW, the best time I have seen for a STOCK C6 Z06 (w/LS7) was an 11.21 @ 127.xx mph . Some guys have been critical of that, considering the C5 Z06 is capable of high 11's stock, but I think there are/were some torque management issues to work around with the new Z06, as well as needing proper TIRES and I think there may have even been a complaint about the clutch performance at the track? Most of them, however, are posting mid-11's @ ~125 right out of the box with an average driver .
