LS6 intakes stock on 01-02 Z28's ??

Hey guys,
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 01-02 LS1 F-bodies came with the LS6 intake. Is this true?? If so why are they rated at 310 HP when the 98-00 are rated at 305???

SLP claims a 10-15 HP gain when switching to the LS6 intake.

Are they full of s**t or is the 310HP on the 01-02 just being conservative??

Thanks.

BTW...

I haven't been here long but have gotten tons of great advice from some great people!!!! Keep up the good job guys!!!!

You are correct. The '01-02's came with the LS6 intake manifold straight from the factory. As far as factory ratings are concerned for these cars, you can pretty much take them with a grain of salt. They produce a good bit more power than what GM rates them at.

gm basically underrated the LS1 in the f-bodies all together. my guess was they wanted to make a more noticable differance in the f-body and their baby C5's and mayb for insurance purposes as well? that was one of the conclusions why **** like mustangs sold much better than f-bodies.. insurance killllled f-bodies.

also i think GM put down hp at crank ##'s for the C5 and the f-body recieved pretty close to dyno ##'s on paper.

and yes your ls6 intake mani does produce alot more HP than GM rated it at (they didnt really rate it but the engine all together). BUT dont forget you have a smaller camshaft than the 98-99 LS1's. the 98-99 and mayb 00's? recieved a beefier camshaft than the 01-02's so that helps close the gap.

I do not know about the LS6 Intake Manifold in the 01 - 02 models... but I did read in the Fall 03 issue of Camaro Performers that GM might have installed a LS6 block in the F-Body. Roughly 15% of 01 cars and a little over 25% of 02 cars recieved the LS6 block..... the easiest way to check is to look at the #'s on the back of your left hand side engine deck (you'll need a flashlight and a mirror) and look for the # 12561168... if you have this # you're one of the lucky ones. I can't seem to read mine so I'll leave it a mystery to myself. You can also tell by the blocks luster, the LS6 block is duller than the LS1 block.. only problem there is trying to find one of each to compare it to.

yes that is correct. LS6 = modified LS1. intake mani + heads + diff cam etc etc = BAM! LS6.. yay.
