LS6 intake

this is what i would like to do to my '00 SS. LS6 intake,w/ 85mm TB.and a electric water pump. I have put on a SLP lid,SSRA,remove the screen on the MAF,put on a strut tower brace, did the TB bypass.( At first i used the TB bypass kit,but it was tuching the pulley under the TB.So then i went and got a 3.5' hose so i could go from the 1/4" line on the intake manifold right to the radiator. It looks better, is out of the way of the pulley and one less adapter to leak! also it was only $3.28 for the hose, the kit is $16.95.)( just my .02 )will i need a tune to get the most out of my mods? I am not going to do anything to the heads, cam or the exhaust. One more thing, LS6 ($320) or a F.A.S.T. ($800) intake manifold for what i am doing .Thanks for the help and info. Cale

Re: LS6 intake

Your engine is more restricted on the exhaust side than the intake and common wisdom here is that a LS6 intake and especially an 85 MM TB or only going to help if you are flowing more with heads or larger displacement. I would start with the exhaust and a converter or gears.

Re: LS6 intake

forget the throttle body...you won't gain anything, at least not for the cost of the TB.

the ls6 intake is good for a dyno proven 8-10hp on a stock/bolt on car. and would be a worthwhile mod.

i would hope you would at least put some kind of catback or cutout on the car for exhaust, the stock system is quite restrictive.

you don't NEED a tune for all your mods, but with the LS6 intake you'll get an SES light for the EGR deletion. this doesn't affect the running of the car at all. the SES is just a dummy light.

Re: LS6 intake

LOL Yes, the LS6 is simply a high-end mod, that's why all 01+ ls1 engines come with it from the factory.

Re: LS6 intake

oh...by the way...the FAST intake is WAY overkill for your car.

dyno tests have shown it to only gain 1-2hp over the LS6 intake up to 6400rpms or so.

on high rpm and big displacement it really shines...but for almost 3x the pricetag....no way.

Re: LS6 intake

well...it is hard to feel 8-10hp....

some will say they do...but they are full of it for the most part.

but the dynos prove it time and time again. it's definatly more pronounced of a gain if you have bolt ons or a cam.

Re: LS6 intake

get a full exhaust, lt headers, then get the ls6 intake. after that u can decide to go with a cam and get a tune. that should definently wake up the car.

Re: LS6 intake

I know this is off topic but i saw that someone said that the 01+ models come with a LS6 intake. I heard that they also came with a Z06 clutch (someone on one of the boards was talking about it.

Re: LS6 intake

DO NOT DESCREEN YOUR MAF....LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!

I agree, you'll see more gains at this stage by modding the exhaust side.

LS1RedZ, that info is correct. 01 up LS1's have the LS6 intake and if M6, clutch.

Re: LS6 intake

I was told that the screen are used in trucks where the air approaches the MAF from the side, and the screen is used to straighten the air flow so it will not get false readings. In the corvette and camaro/firebird thay have straight intakes and don't need them.I know the '02 and up corvette doesn't have a screen in the MAF from GM.What would be the down side of removeing the screen on my '00? My 1st post i said a 85mm TB, I ment to say a 80mm.I think the LS6 intake is the one for me.how much can i get one for used? what do you think about the ele. water pump? money/HP. and last the exhaust, what is the worst part, manifolds or cats? thanks for your help and time, Cale

Re: LS6 intake

used ls6 intakes sell for $300 give or take

throttle body is pointless

waterpump is ALOT of money. for 5-10hp that you would gain...hard to say if the $550 is worth it.

the screan on the maf...hard to say...all i know is that i had a small hose clamp get sucked into my engine. had i been running a stock maf instead of an aftermarket set of ends....that never would have happened...would have saved me $2000

Re: LS6 intake

Super Sucker Ram Air.It is a cold air intake that scoops air from under the front of the car.As the camaro SS hood or a firebird Ram Air scoops air from the top of the hood.

Re: LS6 intake

I don't think it's the EXACT clutch from the z06, but nearly identical specs.
