Question LS6 heads and a TR220 cam

I've got a street driven 2002 Z28 6speed. It's currently got TTS long tube headers, Corsa exaust, all the free mods, ported MAF, lid, ASP pulley, McLeod clutch, aluminum flywheel, carbon fiber driveshaft, Konis and Eibachs, 35/21mm swaybars and SS wheels... it's pretty much "done", only one step remains... HEADS and CAM!!

I want to keep this car for the next year or so as a daily driver, which means I want to keep it reliable, streetable, and able to pass smog tests easily. I have no intention of turning it into some ill tempered beast that wont idle or pass smog tests, I don't care about getting that last "10th" in the quarter mile - my car has never been to the track, it is a failry subtle STREET car... I want it to remain a "sleeper" and dont want to overtly advertise the improvements I've made - but I am shooting for close to 400 horses with my final setup.

After doing some research on emissions/driveability, the biggest cam I am willing to put into it is the Thunder Racing 220/220 114 lsa.

It's got .553 lift... my question is if this cam would work better with CNC LS6 heads from Pace

or if I should go with something like the Thunder Racing CNC Stage 1 heads, instead. Would the springs on the LS6 heads be able to take the .553 lift of the TR cam, or should I go with the CNC stage1 heads from TR instead with that >.550 lift of the TR220 cam??

The only other cam I've really considered is the CompCams 216/220 with .525/.532 lift and 114lsa. Would this cam be a better match for the CNC LS6 heads? and the TR CNC stage1 LS1 heads a better match for the TR220 cam?

Any advice out there from guys that have built up mild manner'd daily driven STREET cars with near 400 horses? what cam and heads did you use, and were you happy with the result, with no loss in "streetability"?

I am leaning toward the LS6 heads, since they can be upgraded very nicely down the road, when this car becomes my "weekend" car after I get a different daily driver (probably in a bit over a year).

Nice setup you got going. I'm not 100% sure what I think would benefit you best, but let me try to chime in on one question you had.

The springs used in the 2002 LS6 setup will not be enough to handle the tr220 cam. Although the lift of this cam isn't that extreme, it is based on a very agressive lobe. The springs would not be able to handle the extreme ramp rates of this cam under heavy acceleration, more than likely resulting in damage. This has been stated by the Thunder Racing tech guys on several other threads which have asked this question.

As for the heads, I'll go ahead and tell you I don't know the exact numbers for each. If I was to guess though, TR does know their stuff. Therefor I would be VERY surprised if the stage I heads, and the tr220 cam (both probably even built around the idea of being used together) wouldn't be a very STRONG emissions legal setup. Very surprised!

Good Luck!!

I can't really comment on the heads, but I really like my TR220/114 cam. It made 380/372 with stock heads, is extremely driveable, and got 28.2 mpg on a highway trip.
