Question LS6 Heads ???

I've heard that the LS1 block and the LS6 block are the same in 01 and 02. Would a set of factory LS6 heads be a straight bolt-on for my car, or would it make more sense to get a good set of CNC LS1 heads?
Also, could anyone give me some info on the differences between LS6/LS1 in 01 and 02?
Thanks.

Get the proted heads. 01's and 02's are basicaly a LS6 minus the heads, it sounds logical b/c it is cheaper and quicker for GM just to make one different set of heads than a whole different motor. But if you get a set of ported heads get a cam to go with them, and possibly some long tube headers. You will see alot more gain with that. I have heard some good things about almost every manufacture. www.thunderracing.com and www.motorsporttech.com have some dynos with their combos.

LS6 heads wont give you as much as a set of ported LS1 heads, but they cost less. Particularly when compared to the stage 2 heads.

They will give you better flowing ports and higher compression with stock heads. So you wouldnt need to screw with pushrod size.

I personaly would love to get a set of the GM CNC LS6 heads.....

BTW, you arent really buying heads when you get ported ones, you are exchanging, and paying for the porting and machinework as well as valves and valvespring/retainer upgrades. if you wnat to keep your heads (incase you wnat to go back to stock for some reason) you pay a core charge that is usualy around 500-600 bucks

If you get a set of LS6 heads you are usualy buying them outright. I knwo of no one that will exchange LS1 heads for LS6 heads

They (GM) made the change over at the end of 2000. LS6 intake was added in 2001. The combination of the LS6 heads, cam and intake are usually good for at least 365RWHP = 435 SAE net hp.
