LS6 Cam in an LS1

If I put a 2003 LS6 Cam in a 2002 LS1, how much of a gain would I see. I do not currently have LT's, but I am thinking about this and also thinking about just MAC mids with Cats. Also, besides a tune, what else would I need to make this work. Any ideas on prices and recommendations on sites?
Thanks

you would need new rockers and push rods. Among other things. I asked this same question on another forum, and I came to the conclusion that it really isn't worth it. You might see a 20hp gain while spending a cool $800 minimum.

You'd be way better off with a more aggressive cam.

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

i have this cam.you dont need rockers or PRs with this cam.the stock ones are fine.youll need 02-up ls6 springs.

you can get what you need for under $300.if youre looking for big power this isnt the cam to go with.

theres other cams that are reasonably priced but youll need to upgrade your valvetrain.you can go pretty agressive with cams on ls1s and be streetable.

an ls6 cam is barely detectable and has descent gains for its cost.

youll need tuning to get its maximum power though but you probably wont need it.

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

Friend of mine with a 2002 SS with a lid, stock manifolds and true duals put down 363rwhp with the LS6 cam and a good tune...

I was impressed at the numbers he put down for the mods he has... Good cam in my opinion, but I would have to say that the LS1 HOTCAM would probably make a lot more power, but would also be a lot more noticable...

Makes good power though

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

The LS6 is a great cam for a daily driver where a BONE STOCK idle and BONE STOCK driveability are the most important thing. they make decent power but if you can sacrifice 1 or 2 mpg and you dont mind a bit of lope in the idle, you can still have excellent driveability and make an easy 10 or 20 more RWHP.

of course, with an even more radical cam, you can make a ton more power. it's all a matter of how far you're comfortable with deviating from the car's stock manners.

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

The car is daily driven. I would like more power, but not too much were it is hard to drive the thing in stop and go traffic which I run into from time to time. 360 rwhp sounds like what I am going for. So, I would only need LS6 springs for this?
Thanks guys.

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

One final question, is the LS6 cam going to make a difference with out LT Headers? I am thinking about going with mac mids. Let me know what yall think. I am not sure about putting 1200 for LT's with cats.
Thanks

you don't need to spend 1200 bucks to get longtubes. take a look at ceramic coated pacesetters. GREAT value and very good construction. mine are a year and a half old and are still bright and shiny.

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

1200 = 700 for LT headers and 500 for y-pipe with cats. From what I have seen.

try $400 or so for coated headers and then $300-400 for the ypipe (probably not even that).

watch the group purchases

He wont need rockers. The stock LS1 rockers are fine.

Look around and get a decently mild cam. I shopped and got my cam and headers w/pushrods/retainers all for less then 1000 Bucks.
I installed it myself though.
Push rods arent that expensive. The cam itself can be high but there are lost of guys here on the forums " LS1.com as well" Who sell they're cams for virtually nothing.
Have fun .

And then you can join the group where your stuff rusts through after a year

Spend the extra money and do it right the first time. Granted, I spent $1000 for LTs and a Y-pipe, but I'll never have to worry about them rusting, and the times they helped put out are great

Re: LS6 Cam in an LS1

If you are going for a sleeper set-up, this cam is for you. I got +28rwhp +8rwtq thru stock manifolds with no tune in an A4. The only other mods at the time were a LID and filter. 360rwhp w/ MACS and a tune should be entirely possible.
