They list this, "2.73 performance axle ratio." Since when has 2.73 been about performance?

I'm assuming that with 2.73s and 436hp, one could easily achieve 180mph+ .....I'd call THAT performance.....just not the performance that most of the people on these forums are accustomed to.

How often do you spend going 160+? How about how often you spend going 80 and below? I'd much rather have performance down low than higher top speed.

I agree with you. I was just taking a guess as to maybe what they were meaning by a "2.73 performance axle". With a 2.73 you can haul *** on the highway and still have tons of around-town driveability....and a lot of fun doing it.

It's a 2.73 performance axle because in a 6-speed auto, the first gear is 4.02:1. The standard axle is 2.56.

Gear ratios for A6:
4.02
2.36
1.53
1.15
0.85
0.67

Quite different than the T-56 style gear ratios of a 2.66 first gear.

That is considered performance transmission gearing, not a performance rear gear.

I just thought it was funny. No one ever bought 2.73 gears for performance unless they're into high speed racing and yet GM refers to them as performance because they're going into a Vette. Kind of like the guys that brag about having a "Corvette 350" in their car even if it came from the horrible early smog years.

The base Vettes are gonna be solid mid 12 cars and get 30mpg while banking at almost a g. hahahahaha
